Installation Procedure

  1. Align the engine to the transmission.

    NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice .
  3. Apply sealant to the two upper transmission-to-engine bolts only, and install the transmission-to-engine mounting bolts. Refer to Sealers, Adhesives, and Lubricants  for the correct part number.

    Tighten:  Tighten the bolts to 64 N.m (47 lb ft).

  4. Install the right engine mount. Refer to Engine Mount Replacement - Right Side .
  5. Install the front engine mount to the engine. Refer to Transmission Rear Mount Replacement .
  6. Install the following components:
    1. Install the cylinder heads. Refer to Cylinder Head Removal - Left Side  and Cylinder Head Removal - Right Side .
    2. Install the timing belt. Refer to Timing Belt Removal .
    3. Install the catalytic converters. Refer to Catalytic Converter Replacement - Left Side (3.5L (L66)) and Catalytic Converter Replacement - Right Side (3.5L (L66)) .
    4. Install the rocker covers. Refer to Valve Rocker Arm Cover Replacement - Left Side  and Valve Rocker Arm Cover Replacement - Right Side .
    5. Install the front covers. Refer to Timing Belt Cover Replacement .
    6. Install the generator. Refer to Generator Replacement (3.5L (L66)) .
    7. Install the A/C compressor. Refer to Compressor Replacement (L66) .

  8. Install the starter. Refer to Starter Motor Replacement (3.5L (L66)) .
  9. Install the powertrain assembly to the vehicle.
  10. Install the cradle bolts. Refer to Frame Replacement (L66) .
  11. Remove the engine support table.
  12. Install the front engine mount bolts to the body. Refer to Transmission Rear Mount Replacement .
  13. Remove the wood blocks from the cradle.
  14. Install the lower transaxle-to-engine bolts.

    Tighten:  Tighten the bolts to 64 N.m (47 lb ft).

  15. Install the PTU. Refer to Transfer Case Replacement .
  16. Install the torque convertor-to-flywheel bolts.

    Tighten:  Tighten the bolts to 12 N.m (9 lb ft).

  17. Install the torque convertor inspection cover.

    Tighten:  Tighten the bolts to 12 N.m (9 lb ft).

  18. Install the 3 front fender pushpins
  19. Install the front exhaust pipe. Refer to Exhaust Manifold Pipe Replacement (3.5L (L66)) .
  20. Connect the intermediate shaft from the steering gear. Refer to Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement .
  21. Install the propeller shaft. Refer to Propeller Shaft Replacement .
  22. Install the left and right axle shaft nuts. Refer to Front Wheel Drive Shaft Replacement (Non Hybrid) or Front Wheel Drive Shaft Replacement (Hybrid) .
  23. Connect the left and right lower ball joints. Refer to Lower Ball Joint Replacement .
  24. Install the left and right stabilizer bar links. Refer to Stabilizer Shaft Link Replacement .
  25. Install the left and right tie rod ends to the steering knuckles. Refer to Rack and Pinion Outer Tie Rod End Replacement .
  26. Connect the transmission cooler lines to the transmission and bracket. Refer to Transmission Rear Mount Bracket Replacement .
  27. Install the left wheelhouse liner. Refer to Front Wheelhouse Liner Replacement .
  28. Install the front tires. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation .
  29. Lower the vehicle.

  31. Install the fuel EVAP line.
  32. Connect the fuel feed line. Refer to Fuel Hose/Pipes Replacement - Chassis .
  33. Install the starter positive cable.

    Tighten:  Tighten the starter cable to 10 N.m (89 lb in).

  34. Install the inlet and outlet heater hoses.
  35. Connect the inlet and outlet radiator hoses to the engine.
  36. Install the A/C tube to the A/C compressor. Refer to Compressor Hose Assembly Replacement (L66) .
  37. Connect the coolant reservoir hose from the engine to reservoir.
  38. Connect the A/C line from the condenser to compressor.
  39. Connect the A/C high pressure switch harness.
  40. Connect the generator positive cable and nut.

    Tighten:  Tighten the nut to 12 N.m (106 lb in).

  41. Install the A/C lower pressure tube at the front lift bracket. Refer to Liquid Line Replacement (L66) .
  42. Install the PCM. Refer to Powertrain Control Module Replacement .

  44. Connect the radiator inlet and outlet hoses to the engine.
  45. Fill the vehicle with coolant. Refer to Draining and Filling Cooling System (Static Fill) or Draining and Filling Cooling System (GE 47716 Fill) .
  46. Connect the wiring harness to the underhood junction block. Refer to Underhood Electrical Center or Junction Block Replacement .
  47. Connect the transmission shifter cable.

  49. Remove the cooling module support.
  50. Install the battery tray and battery. Refer to Battery Tray Replacement (3.5L (L66)) .
  51. Install the air cleaner assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement .
  52. Install the air outlet duct assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Resonator Outlet Duct Replacement .
  53. Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection (2.2L (L61) and 3.5L (L66)) .
  54. Perform the idle learn procedure. Refer to Idle Learn .
