Park/Neutral Position Switch Adjustment

Tools Required

  1. Insert Graphic SMPAT93340AA1.  Remove the battery. Refer to Battery Replacement .
  2. Remove the battery box. Refer to Battery Box Replacement .
  3. Remove the battery bracket. Loosen the battery tray bracket screws and remove the bracket.
  4. Shift the transaxle into N (Neutral) position.
  5. Using the Fascia Retainer Remover J 36346  , remove the control cable assembly from the park/neutral position switch lever.
  6. Loosen the transaxle range switch bolts.
  7. Insert Graphic SMPAT94102AA.  Install the Transaxle Range Switch Alignment J 45404  and align the J 45404  pointer to the neutral basic line. See Special Tools .
  8. Remove the alignment tool.
  9. Tighten park/neutral position switch bolts.

    Tighten:  Tighten the park/neutral position switch bolts to 20-29 N.m (15-21 lb ft).

  10. Insert Graphic SMPAT93340AA1.  Install the control cable assembly to the park/neutral position switch lever.

  12. Install the battery tray bracket.
  13. Position the battery tray bracket and tighten the screws.

    Tighten:  Tighten the battery tray bracket screws to 16 N.m (12 lb ft).

  14. Install the battery box. Refer to Battery Box Replacement .
  15. Install the battery. Refer to Battery Replacement .
  16. After adjusting the switch, verify the engine only starts in P (Park) or N (Neutral). If the engine starts in any other position, readjust the switch.
