Installation Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Oldsmobile Bravada, 2002 GMC Envoy XL, 2002 GMC Envoy, and 2002 Chevrolet TrailBlazer. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. If replacing the IP, install the air distribution duct vents to the instrument panel. Refer to AIR DISTRIBUTOR DUCT REPLACEMENT in HVAC.
  2. If replacing the IP, install the passenger inflatable restraint module to the instrument panel. Refer to REMOVAL & INSTALLATION (PASSENGER-SIDE) in SIR.
  3. With the aid of an assistant, install the instrument panel to the vehicle.
    IMPORTANT: Ensure the wiring harnesses and electrical connectors are not pinched behind the instrument panel and are positioned for proper connection.
  4. Fully seat the instrument panel to the positioning locators.
    IMPORTANT: Do not tighten the IP retaining bolts until all of the bolts have been loosely installed.
  5. Install the bolts securing the middle and upper portion of the instrument panel to the vehicle.

  7. Install the bolts that secure the lower portion of the instrument panel to the vehicle.

    NOTE: Refer to FASTENER NOTICE in Cautions and Notices.
  8. Complete the installation of all of the bolts that retain the IP to the vehicle.

    Tighten:  Tighten the bolts to 7 N.m (62 lb in).

  9. Install the side window defogger outlet screw.

    Tighten:  Tighten the defogger outlet screw to 2.5 N.m (22 lb in).

  10. Install the right IP access cover.

  11. Install the front upper speakers, if equipped. Refer to SPEAKER REPLACEMENT - FRONT UPPER in Entertainment.
  12. Install the trim pad. Refer to Trim Pad Replacement - Instrument Panel (I/P) Upper .
  13. Install the windshield garnish moldings. Refer to GARNISH MOLDING REPLACEMENT - WINDSHIELD PILLAR in Interior Trim.
  14. If replacing the IP, Install the headlamp switch bezel. Refer to Trim Plate Replacement - Instrument Panel (I/P) Accessory Left .
  15. Install the headlamp switch to the bezel. Refer to HEADLAMP SWITCH REPLACEMENT in Lighting Systems.
  16. Install the left IP access cover.

  17. Install the HVAC control module wire harness attachment (1) to the IP substrate.

  18. Install the HVAC control module. Refer to HVAC CONTROL MODULE REPLACEMENT in HVAC Systems-Manual.
  19. Install the radio. Refer to RADIO REPLACEMENT in Entertainment.
  20. Install the IP cluster. Refer to Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) Replacement .
  21. Install the IP cluster bezel, Chevrolet only. Refer to Bezel Replacement - Instrument Panel (I/P) Cluster (Chevrolet)  or Bezel Replacement - Instrument Panel (I/P) Cluster (GMC/Oldsmobile) .
  22. Install the IP accessory trim plate, GMC or Oldsmobile only. Refer to Trim Plate Replacement - Instrument Panel (I/P) Accessory (Chevrolet)  or Trim Plate Replacement - Instrument Panel (I/P) Accessory (Oldsmobile) .
  23. Install the IP lower sound insulator, GMC or Chevrolet only. Refer to Closeout/Insulator Panel Replacement - Instrument Panel (I/P) Lower (GMC/Chevrolet) .
  24. Install the center console. Refer to Console Replacement .
  25. Install the shift lever bezel, Oldsmobile only. Refer to Console Shift Lever Bezel Replacement (Oldsmobile) .
  26. Install the IP compartment courtesy lamp. Refer to INSTRUMENT PANEL (I/P) COMPARTMENT LAMP REPLACEMENT in Lighting Systems.
  27. Install the IP compartment door. Refer to Door Replacement - Instrument Panel (I/P) Compartment .
  28. Install the right closeout/insulator panel. Refer to Closeout/Insulator Panel Replacement - Right .
  29. Install the steering column. Refer to STEERING COLUMN in Steering Wheel and Column.
  30. Install the left HVAC floor duct (1).

  31. Install the left HVAC floor duct push pin (2).
  32. Install the knee bolster. Refer to Knee Bolster Replacement .
  33. Install the knee bolster trim panel. Refer to Trim Panel Replacement - Knee Bolster .
  34. Install the left closeout/insulator panel. Refer to Closeout/Insulator Panel Replacement - Left .
  35. Enable the SIR system. Refer to ACTIVATING SYSTEM in SIR.
