Midgate Latch Release Inoperative

Midgate Latch Release Inoperative

1 Did you review the Midgate Description and Operation? Go to Step 2  Go to Symptoms - Body Rear End 
2 Verify that the midgate latch release is inoperative.
Does the midgate latch release operate normally?
Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems Go to Step 3

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the left and right midgate latch electrical connectors.
  3. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  4. Probe the battery positive voltage circuit of the left and right midgate latch electrical connectors with a test lamp that is connected to a good ground.
  5. Activate the midgate latch release switch.
Does the test lamp illuminate?
Go to Step 4  Go to Step 5

  1. Connect a test lamp between the battery positive voltage circuit and the ground circuit of the appropriate midgate latch electrical connector.
  2. Activate the midgate latch release switch.
Does the test lamp illuminate?
Go to Step 11  Go to Step 15 
5 Test the battery positive voltage circuit for a short to ground or an open. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
Did you find and correct the condition?
Go to Step 21  Go to Step 6

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Connect the left and right midgate latch electrical connectors.
  3. Disconnect the midgate latch release switch electrical connector.
  4. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  5. Probe the midgate glass position switch circuit of the midgate latch release switch electrical connector with a test lamp that is connected to a good ground.
Does the test lamp illuminate?
Go to Step 7  Go to Step 8 
7 Connect a test lamp between the midgate glass position switch circuit and the ground circuit of the midgate latch release switch electrical connector.
Does the test lamp illuminate?
Go to Step 12  Go to Step 15

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the midgate glass full down switch electrical connector.
  3. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  4. Probe the midgate relay coil control circuit of the midgate glass full down switch electrical connector with a test lamp that is connected to a good ground.
Does the test lamp illuminate?
Go to Step 9  Go to Step 10

  1. Probe the midgate glass position switch circuit of the midgate latch release switch electrical connector with a test lamp that is connected to a good ground.
  2. Connect a 3-amp fused jumper between the midgate relay coil control circuit and the midgate glass position switch circuit of the midgate glass full down switch electrical connector.
Does the test lamp illuminate?
Go to Step 13  Go to Step 16 
10 Test the midgate relay coil control circuit for a short to ground or an open. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
Did you find and correct the condition?
Go to Step 21  Go to Step 14 
11 Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the appropriate midgate latch. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.
Did you find and correct the condition?
Go to Step 21  Go to Step 17 
12 Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the midgate latch release switch. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.
Did you find and correct the condition?
Go to Step 21  Go to Step 18 
13 Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the midgate glass full down switch. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.
Did you find and correct the condition?
Go to Step 21  Go to Step 19 
14 Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the midgate relay. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.
Did you find and correct the condition?
Go to Step 21  Go to Step 20 
15 Repair the open in the appropriate ground circuit. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
Did you find and correct the condition?
Go to Step 21  -
16 Repair the open in the midgate glass position switch circuit. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
Did you find and correct the condition?
Go to Step 21  -
17 Replace the appropriate midgate latch. Refer to Latch Replacement - Midgate  .
Did you complete the replacement?
Go to Step 21  -
18 Replace the midgate latch release switch. Refer to Switch Replacement - Midgate Latch  .
Did you complete the replacement?
Go to Step 21  -
19 Replace the midgate glass full down switch. Refer to Switch Window Position Replacement - Midgate  .
Did you complete the replacement?
Go to Step 21  -
20 Replace the midgate relay. Refer to Relay Replacement (Within an Electrical Center)Relay Replacement (Attached to Wire Harness) .
Did you complete the replacement?
Go to Step 21  -
21 Operate the system in order to verify the repair.
Did you correct the condition?
System OK Go to Step 2
