Removal Procedure

- Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to BATTERY NEGATIVE CABLE DISCONNECT/CONNECT PROCEDURE in Engine Electrical.
- Disable the driver and passenger side SIR systems. Refer to DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM and DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM in SIR.
- Remove the I/P center trim panel. Refer to TRIM PANEL REPLACEMENT - INSTRUMENT PANEL (I/P) CENTER .
- Remove the radio. Refer to RADIO REPLACEMENT .
- Remove the front floor console trim plate. Refer to TRIM PLATE REPLACEMENT - FRONT FLOOR CONSOLE .
- Remove the steering wheel inflatable restraint. Refer to REMOVAL & INSTALLATION (DRIVER-SIDE) .
- Remove the steering wheel. Refer to STEERING WHEEL REPLACEMENT .
- Remove the upper and lower steering column covers. Refer to STEERING COLUMN TRIM COVERS REPLACEMENT .
- Remove the head lamp switch assembly. Refer to HEADLAMP SWITCH REPLACEMENT .
- Remove the wiper switch assembly. Refer to WIPERS/WASHER SWITCH REPLACEMENT .
- Remove the passenger side inflatable restraint. Refer to REMOVAL & INSTALLATION (PASSENGER-SIDE) .
- Remove the I/P cluster trim plate. Refer to TRIM PANEL REPLACEMENT - INSTRUMENT PANEL (I/P) CLUSTER .
- Remove the I/P cluster assembly. Refer to INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER (IPC) REPLACEMENT .
- Remove the windshield garnish moldings. Refer to GARNISH MOLDING REPLACEMENT - WINDSHIELD PILLAR .
- Remove the left I/P accessory trim plate. Refer to TRIM PLATE REPLACEMENT - INSTRUMENT PANEL (I/P) ACCESSORY LEFT .
- Remove any necessary connectors.
- Remove the screws (3) from the upper instrument panel (1).
- Remove the upper instrument panel (1) by pulling rearward to remove from the tabs (2).
