Diagnostic Procedures

  1. Perform powertrain diagnostic system check. See POWERTRAIN DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK . After performing powertrain diagnostic system check, go to next step.
  2. Perform CKP variation learning procedure. See CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR  under PROGRAMMING. If scan tool shows CKP learn procedure is complete, go to step  5. If scan tool does not show CKP learn procedure is complete, go to next step.
  3. Attempt CKP learn procedure as many as 3 times. If scan tool indicates that learn procedure is complete, go to step  5. If scan tool does not indicate that learn procedure is complete, go to next step.
  4. Check CKP sensor and crankshaft reluctor wheel for damage. See COMPONENT LOCATIONS . If problem is found, go to step  6. If no problem is found, see DIAGNOSTIC AIDS .
  5. Turn ignition off for 15 seconds, then go to step  7.
  6. Replace CKP sensor and/or reluctor wheel. After replacing CKP sensor, perform CKP System Variation Learn Procedures. See step  2. After performing learn procedures, go to next step.
  7. Using scan tool, select DTC, CLEAR INFO. Start and warm engine to normal operating temperature. Operate vehicle within code enable criteria. Using scan tool, check DTCs. If DTC ran and passed, go to next step. If DTC test did not run and pass, go to step  2.
  8. Using scan tool, observe stored information. If scan tool displays any DTCs that have not been diagnosed, see DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS . If scan tool does not display any DTCs, system is okay.
