Crankshaft Position Sensor

  1. Install a scan tool.
  2. Apply vehicle's parking brake.
  3. Block drive wheels.
  4. Close vehicle's hood.
  5. Place vehicles transmission in Park.
  6. Idle engine until coolant temperature reaches 150°F (65°C).
  7. Turn off all accessories.
  8. NOTE: If CKP system variation learn procedure cannot be completed successfully, see DTC P0336: CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR CIRCUIT PERFORMANCE .
  9. Using scan tool, enable CKP system variation learn procedure.
  10. NOTE: After ignition switch is turned to CRANK position, PCM must see a change in state of brake switch (released to applied) to run learn procedure. Also, service brakes, not parking brake, must be held throughout duration of learn procedure.
  11. Apply and hold brake pedal.
  12. NOTE: While learn procedure is in progress, release throttle immediately when engine starts to decelerate. Engine control is returned to operator and engine will respond to throttle position after learn procedure is complete.
  13. Slowly increase engine speed to 4000 RPM.
  14. Immediately release throttle when engine speed decreases.
  15. Turn ignition off for 15 seconds after learn procedure is completed successfully.
