Test J: Chime Inoperative

  1. If audible warnings diagnostic system check has been performed, go to next step. If audible warnings diagnostic system check has not been performed, perform audible warnings diagnostic system check. See AUDIBLE WARNINGS DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
  2. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is located under instrument panel, right of steering column. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Using scan tool, perform CHIME TONE TEST in radio. If chime sounds, go to next step. If chime does not sound, go to step  4 .
  3. Open driver's side door. If door ajar indicator illuminates when driver's side door is opened, diagnose intermittent problem. See INTERMITTENTS in TROUBLE SHOOTING - NO CODES - CARS article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE. If door ajar indicator does not illuminate when driver's side door is opened, diagnose door ajar indicator. See TEST K: DOOR AJAR INDICATOR MALFUNCTION  .
  4. Turn radio on. Adjust radio balance and fade, to left front speaker. If left front speaker operates properly, go to next step. If left front speaker does not operate properly, diagnose radio and speaker system. See appropriate WIRING DIAGRAM article.
    5. NOTE: Perform set up procedure for replacement radio. See appropriate BODY CONTROL MODULES article.
  5. Replace radio. After repair, go to next step.
  6. Reconnect all disconnected components and connectors. Operate vehicle to verify repair. If problem does not exist, system is okay. If problem still exists, go to step  2 .
