Test K: Door Ajar Indicator Circuit Malfunction
- If door systems diagnostic system check has been performed, go to next step. If door systems diagnostic system check has not been performed, perform door systems diagnostic system check. See DOOR SYSTEMS DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
- Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Close all of doors. While observing door ajar indicator, open and close each door. If door ajar indicator is always off for any door, go to next step. If door ajar indicator is always on for any door, go to step 9 .
- Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is located under instrument panel, right of steering column. Perform following procedure for each door on vehicle. Open one door on vehicle. Using scan tool, observe appropriate door ajar input. If scan tool displays ON for all door ajar inputs and illuminates door ajar indicator, go to next step. If scan tool displays ON for any door ajar inputs without illuminating door ajar indicator, go to step 17 .
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect Body Control Module (BCM) 16-pin harness connector C1 and 24-pin harness connector C2. BCM is located under right side of instrument panel. Using a test light connected to battery voltage, probe suspect door ajar signal circuit at BCM (for passenger doors, connector C1 terminal B10 (Light Blue wire); for driver's side door, connector C1 terminal B7 (Light Green/Black wire). See Figure . Open corresponding vehicle door to circuit being tested. If test light does not illuminate, go to next step. If test light illuminates, go to step 14 .
- If problem is related to any passenger side door, go to next step. If problem is related to driver's side, go to step 7 .
- Disconnect passenger's side door ajar switch harness connector. Measure resistance in Light Blue wire between BCM harness connector C2 terminal B10 and suspect passenger's side door ajar switch terminal. See Figure . If resistance is less than 2 ohms, go to step 8 . If resistance is 2 ohms or more, repair open in Light Blue wire between BCM and door ajar switch. After repair, go to step 18 .
- Disconnect driver's side door ajar switch harness connector. Measure resistance in Light Green/Black wire between BCM harness connector C1 terminal B7 and driver's side door ajar switch terminal "D". See Figure . If resistance is less than 2 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 2 ohms or more, repair open in Light Green/Black wire between BCM and door ajar switch. After repair, go to step 18 .
- Measure resistance between ground and Black wire terminal at suspect door ajar switch. If resistance is less than 2 ohms, go to step 13 . If resistance is 2 ohms or more, repair open in Black wire between suspect door ajar switch and ground. Ground point for driver's side door ajar switch is located on left side of passenger compartment, near rocker panel. Ground point for passenger's side door ajar switch is located on right side of passenger compartment, near rocker panel. After repair, go to step 18 .
- Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is located under instrument panel, right of steering column. Close all of doors. Using scan tool, observe door ajar switch inputs in LIGHT STATUS data list. If scan tool does not display OFF for both door ajar inputs, go to next step. If scan tool displays OFF for both of door ajar inputs, go to step 17 .
- If problem is related to any passenger side door, go to next step. If problem is related to driver's side, go to step 12 .
- Disconnect Body Control Module (BCM) 24-pin harness connector C2. BCM is located under right side of instrument panel. Measure resistance in between ground and BCM harness connector C2 terminal B10 (Light Blue wire). See Figure . If resistance is 2 ohms or more, go to step 13 . If resistance is less than 2 ohms, repair short to ground in Light Blue wire between BCM and suspect door ajar switch. After repair, go to step 18 .
- Disconnect Body Control Module (BCM) 16-pin harness connector C1. BCM is located under right side of instrument panel. Measure resistance in between ground and BCM harness connector C1 terminal B7 (Light Green/Black wire). See Figure . If resistance is 2 ohms or more, go to next step. If resistance is less than 2 ohms, repair short to ground in Light Green/Black wire between BCM and driver's side door ajar switch. After repair, go to step 18 .
- Check appropriate door ajar switch harness connector for poor connection or loose terminals. See INTERMITTENTS in TROUBLE SHOOTING - NO CODES - CARS article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE. If problem still exists, go to step 16 . If problem does not exist, go to step 18 .
- Check BCM harness connector for poor connection or loose terminals. See INTERMITTENTS in TROUBLE SHOOTING - NO CODES - CARS article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE. If problem still exists, go to next step. If problem does not exist, go to step 18 .
- Replace BCM. After repair, go to step 18 .
- Replace defective door ajar switch. After repair, go to step 18 .
- Replace Instrument Cluster. After repair, go to next step.
- Reconnect all disconnected components and connectors. Operate vehicle to verify repair. If problem does not exist, system is okay. If problem still exists, go to step 2 .
NOTE:
New BCM needs to be programmed. See appropriate BODY CONTROL MODULES article.
