Test J: Too Hot In Vehicle

NOTE: Definition: The Temperature Cannot Be Adjusted, Or The Cooling Is Insufficient During A/C Operation.
  1. Perform diagnostic system check. See DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If diagnostic system check has been performed, go to next step.
  2. Ensure ambient air temperature is above 38°F (3°C). Turn ignition off. Check A/C compressor for free rotation. Start engine. Place mode switch in RECIRCULATION or DEFROST position. Place blower switch in maximum speed position. Place air temperature switch in the coldest position. If A/C compressor operates, go to next step. If A/C compressor does not operate, go to TEST F: COMPRESSOR CLUTCH DOES NOT ENGAGE .
  3. Turn ignition on, with engine off. Place mode switch in any position except off. Place blower switch in each speed position. If blower motor operates in any speed position, go to next step. If blower motor does not operate in any speed position, go to TEST C: BLOWER MOTOR INOPERATIVE .
  4. If blower motor operates correctly in each speed position, go to next step. If blower motor does not operate correctly in each speed position, go to TEST D: BLOWER MOTOR MALFUNCTION .
  5. Start engine. Place blower switch in maximum speed position. Place mode switch in RECIRCULATION position. If recirculation door moves to recirculation position, go to next step. If recirculation door does not move to recirculation position, go to VACUUM CONTROL SYSTEM DIAGNOSTICS .
  6. If TOO HOT IN VEHICLE concern is present with the A/C on, go to next step. If TOO HOT IN VEHICLE concern is not present with the A/C on, go to step  8.
  7. Perform refrigerant system performance test. See A/C SYSTEM PERFORMANCE  under PERFORMANCE TESTS. If you found and corrected the condition, go to step  11. If you did not find a condition, go to next step.
  8. Check the air temperature door and linkage for broken or binding linkages or air temperature door, an obstruction that prevents air temperature door from operating within its full range of motion, and missing or misaligned air temperature door seals. If any of these conditions were found, repair as necessary and go to step  11. If none of these conditions were found, go to next step.
  9. Check harness connector at HVAC control assembly for a poor connection. If a poor connection was found, repair as necessary and go to step  11. If a poor connection was not found, go to next step.
  10. Replace HVAC control assembly. See HVAC CONTROL ASSEMBLY  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If replacement is complete, go to next step.
  11. Operate system to verify repair. If the condition was corrected, system is okay. If the condition was not corrected, go to step  2.
