Test 6: Lumbar Inoperative (Both Seats)

NOTE: When passenger's and driver's lumbar support are inoperative, passenger's seat motors will be inoperative but driver's seat motors will operate normally.
  1. If no additional symptoms are present, go to next step. If additional symptoms are present, repair other symptoms first. See SYMPTOM INDEX  table.
  2. Remove and inspect LUMBAR mini-fuse No. 3 (15-amp) located in instrument panel electrical center. If fuse is okay, go to next step. If fuse is blown, go to step  5 .
  3. Connect test light between terminal "B" of LUMBAR mini-fuse No. 3 cavity and ground. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . If test light comes on, go to next step. If test light does not come on, see POWER DISTRIBUTION article in WIRING DIAGRAMS.
  4. Check connectors C2 and C3 at instrument panel electrical center for loose connections or corroded terminals. If connections are okay, go to TEST 7: LUMBAR INOPERATIVE (DRIVER'S SEAT)  or TEST 8: LUMBAR INOPERATIVE (PASSENGER'S SEAT)  . If connections are not okay, go to step  6 .
  5. Replace LUMBAR mini-fuse No. 3. If fuse blows immediately after installation, go to step  7 . If fuse does not blow after installation, go to step  8 .
  6. Repair connectors as necessary. After repairs, go to step  14 .
  7. Repair short to ground in Orange wire between instrument panel electrical center and suspect lumbar pump. After repairs, go to step  14 .
  8. Disconnect passenger's lumbar pump connector C1. Depress passenger's lumbar switch buttons. If LUMBAR mini-fuse No. 3 blows in any position, go to next step. If LUMBAR mini-fuse No. 3 does not blow, go to step  10 .
  9. Repair short to ground in appropriate wire between passenger's lumbar pump and passenger's power seat switch. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . After repairs, go to step  14 .
  10. Reconnect passenger's lumbar pump connector. Depress passenger's lumbar switch buttons. If LUMBAR mini-fuse No. 3 blows in any position, go to next step. If LUMBAR mini-fuse No. 3 does not blow, go to step  12 .
  11. Check passenger's lumbar pump, lines and components for damage. If faulty circuit is found and repaired, go to step  14 . If no problem is found and circuits are okay, replace passenger's lumbar pump. See LUMBAR PUMP/SEAT CONTROL MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repairs, go to step  14 .
  12. Depress each driver's seat lumbar switch buttons. If LUMBAR mini-fuse No. 3 blows in any position, go to next step. If LUMBAR mini-fuse does not blow, problem is intermittent.
  13. Check driver's lumbar pump, lines and components for damage. If faulty circuit is found and repaired, go to step  14 . If no problem is found and circuits are okay, replace driver's lumbar pump. See LUMBAR PUMP/SEAT CONTROL MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repairs, go to next step.
  14. Recheck power seat operation. If power seat operates normally, repair is complete. If power seat does not operate normally, go to step  2 .
