Test F: Engine Coolant Temperature Indicator Inoperative
- If instrument cluster system check has been performed, go to next step. If instrument cluster system check has not been performed, see INSTRUMENT CLUSTER SYSTEM CHECK under TROUBLE SHOOTING
- Turn ignition switch to RUN position. If engine coolant temperature indicator illuminates, go to next step. If engine coolant temperature indicator does not illuminate, perform instrument cluster system check. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER SYSTEM CHECK under TROUBLE SHOOTING.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor harness connector. ECT sensor is located on top left side of engine. Connect Instrument Panel Tester (J-33431-C) between ECT sensor harness connector terminal "C" (Dark Green wire) and ground. Set instrument panel tester to 44 ohms. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. If coolant temperature gauge moves to 260°F (125°C), go to next step. If coolant temperature gauge does not move to 260°F (125°C), diagnose engine temperature gauge. See TEST A: COOLANT TEMPERATURE GAUGE INACCURATE/INOPERATIVE .
- With ECT gauge still reading high, engine coolant temperature indicator should illuminate. If indicator does not illuminate, go to next step. If indicator illuminates, system is okay.
- Replace instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
