Installation Procedure
- Clean all sealing surfaces.
- CAUTION:
Refer to Component Fastener Tightening Caution .
Engine Oil Temperature Sensor (1) - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications
EN-52442 Balance Shaft Holding Tool (1) - Install and hand tighten
- Use the crankshaft balancer to rotate the engine until the balance shaft weights contact the EN-52442 Balance Shaft Holding Tool (1).
- Slide the wedge of the EN-52442 Balance Shaft Holding Tool (2) to the balance shaft weights and tighten the EN-52442 Balance Shaft Holding Tool thumb screw (3) to hold the balance shafts in position.
- NOTE:
- The engine block surface must be free of contamination prior to applying the sealer.
- Install and align the engine block lower structural extension to the block within 10 minutes of applying the sealer.
- Ensure proper use of room temperature vulcanizing (RTV) sealant. Use of Room Temperature Vulcanizing (RTV) and Anaerobic Sealant
Apply approximately a 4 mm (0.16 in) thick bead of sealant (2, 3) to the engine block lower structural extension. Finally apply a 12 mm dab of sealant at the locations indicated (1). Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers
Lower Crankcase Extension (8) - Install
- Lower Crankcase Extension Bolt (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7) - Install and hand tighten [18x]
- Lower Crankcase Extension Bolt (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7) - Tighten in sequence [18x] - Fastener Specifications
Loosen the EN-52442 Balance Shaft Holding Tool thumb screw (3), then slide the wedge of the EN-52442 Balance Shaft Holding Tool (2) away from the balance shaft weights.
- EN-52442 Balance Shaft Holding Tool (1) - Remove
- NOTE:
Tilt the balancer shaft access hole plate to install through the access hole, then rotate it clockwise until it stops.
Balancer Shaft Access Hole Plate (3) - Install
- Balancer Shaft Access Hole Washer (2) - Install
- Balancer Shaft Access Hole Nut (1) - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications
Oil Filter Bypass Valve (1) - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications
Oil Pump Suction Pipe Gasket (3) - Install NEW
- Oil Pump Screen (2) - Install
- Oil Pump Screen Bolt (1) - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications
- CAUTION:
This vehicle is equipped with torque-to-yield or single use fasteners. Install a NEW torque-to-yield or single use fastener when installing this component. Failure to replace the torque-to-yield or single use fastener could cause damage to the vehicle or component.
NOTE:Install the engine mount bracket bolts at the lower crankcase extension only.
Engine Mount Bracket Bolt- Right Side (1) - Install NEW and tighten [2x] - Fastener Specifications
- CAUTION:
This vehicle is equipped with torque-to-yield or single use fasteners. Install a NEW torque-to-yield or single use fastener when installing this component. Failure to replace the torque-to-yield or single use fastener could cause damage to the vehicle or component.
NOTE:Install the engine mount bracket bolts at the lower crankcase extension only.
Engine Mount Bracket Bolt- Left Side (1) - Install NEW and tighten - Fastener Specifications
- Connect harness connectors and retainers as needed.
Air Conditioning Compressor Bolt (2) - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications
Rotate the balance shaft (1) approximately 52 degrees in the direction of the arrow.
- Hold the balance shaft in that position.
Install the EN-52441 Balance Shaft Timing Tool (1) through the hole in the oil pump.
Install the balance chain (1) at the balance shaft sprocket (2). Align the white link marked on the balance chain (4) with the balance shaft sprocket mark (3).
Install the balance chain (5) at the crankshaft. Align the blue link marked on the balance chain (2) with the crankshaft mark (1).
- Install the balance shaft sprocket (3) along with the balance chain (5) with the mark at the crankshaft (1).
- Balance Shaft Sprocket Bolt (4) - Install NEW and tighten - Fastener Specifications
Balancer Chain Guide (2) - Install
- Balance Chain Guide Bolt (1) - Install and tighten [2x] - Fastener Specifications
Balancer Chain Tensioner (1) - Install
- Balancer Chain Tensioner Bolt (2) - Install and tighten [2x] - Fastener Specifications
EN-955-10-A Locking Pin (2) - Remove
- Clean all sealing surfaces.
Slip the EN-52439-3 Crankshaft Oil Seal Ring Guide Rear (2) through the seal from the outside cover to inside 2 times to shape the seal lip in the NEW crankshaft rear oil seal housing (1).
Install the EN-52439-3 Crankshaft Oil Seal Ring Guide Rear (2) through the seal with the EN-52439-1 Crankshaft Oil Seal Ring Guide Rear (1) to keep the shape of the seal in the NEW crankshaft rear oil seal housing (3).
- NOTE:
- The crankshaft rear oil seal housing surface must be free of contamination prior to applying the sealer.
- Install and align the crankshaft rear oil seal housing to the block within 10 minutes after applying the sealer.
- The crankshaft rear oil seal housing must be fastened to final torque specification within 15 minutes after applying the sealer.
Set the crankshaft rear oil seal housing on the EN-52439 - 1 Crankshaft Oil Seal Ring Guide Rear (2) and apply approximately a 4 mm (0.16 in) thick bead of sealant (1) to the crankshaft rear oil seal housing. Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers
EN-52483 Guide Pins (2) - Install
- Crankshaft Rear Oil Seal Housing (1) - Install NEW
- EN-52439-1 Crankshaft Oil Seal Ring Guide Rear (3) - Remove
Crankshaft Rear Oil Seal Housing Bolt (1) - Install and hand tighten [11x]
- EN-52483 Guide Pins (2) - Remove
- Crankshaft Rear Oil Seal Housing Bolt (1) - Install and hand tighten [2x]
- Crankshaft Rear Oil Seal Housing Bolt (1) - Tighten in sequence [13x] - Fastener Specifications
Remove the EN-52441 Balance Shaft Timing Tool (1).
- The LCE surface must be free of contamination prior to applying the sealer.
- Install and align the oil pan to the block within 10 minutes after applying the sealer.
- The oil pan must be fastened to final torque specification within 15 minutes after applying the sealer.
- Ensure proper use of room temperature vulcanizing (RTV) sealant. Use of Room Temperature Vulcanizing (RTV) and Anaerobic Sealant
- Spray Low LOC brake cleaner on the LCE sealing surface and wipe off with a clean shop towel. Avoided touching the surface after cleaning and air dry with shop air.
- Wipe the oil pan surface with the adhesion plastic pan primer promoter with a clean shop towel. Allow the cleaner to flash / evaporate. Wipe off the sealing surfaces with a lint free cloth. Do not touch the sealing surface after cleaning to avoid inducing containment debris to the bonding surface area. Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers
Apply approximately a 4 mm (0.16 in) thick bead of sealant (1) to the lower oil pan. Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers
Install EN-52483 Guide Pin (1) in two locations to keep oil pan square.
- Lower Oil Pan (2) - Install
- Lower Oil Pan Bolt (3) - Install and tighten in sequence [18x] - Fastener Specifications
- CAUTION:
Do not allow the crankshaft position sensor reluctor ring to come into contact with external magnetic fields or sharp metal objects. Do not drop the crankshaft position sensor reluctor ring. Do not damage the rubberized encoder track. Failure to follow these precautions may cause damage to the component.
NOTE:Ensure that the flywheel locating pin (2) sits in the correct holes in the crankshaft and the crankshaft position sensor inner exciter ring.
Flywheel Locating Pin (2) - Install
- Crankshaft Position Sensor Inner Exciter Ring (1) - Install
Crankshaft Position Sensor (2) - Install
- Crankshaft Position Sensor Bolt (1) - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications
- Connect the electrical connector.
- Clean the 8 flex plate bolt hole threads in the crankshaft.
- If NEW threaded components are being installed, loosen the adhesive using a metal pick or similar tool before proceeding. If threaded components are reused, prepare the threaded components using the following steps:
- Remove any loose cured adhesive from the external threads of the components using a lint free cloth.
- Thread the cleaned components into the internal mating threads and remove to loosen trapped cured adhesive.
- Apply thread locking adhesive to the external threads of the components. Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers
- Ensure there are no gaps in the thread locking adhesive once applied to the component.
- NOTE:
- Check the flex plate for damage before installation.
- Check the guide pin for correct seat in the crankshaft.
Automatic Transmission Flex Plate (1) - Install
- Check that guide pin (2) is in the correct hole of the automatic transmission flex plate.
- Automatic Transmission Flex Plate Bolt (3) - Install NEW and hand tighten [8x]
- NOTE:
The timing pin is installed into the flexplate for engine timing procedures, it can be damaged if torque is applied to the flexplate with the timing pin engaged. The timing pin must be placed in the retracted position using the handle and twisting to locked position. The slide part to be installed to the flexplate when torque is applied to the flexplate or crankshaft balancer bolt.
EN-52476 Flywheel Holding Tool (1) - Install
- Automatic Transmission Flex Plate Bolt (2) - Tighten in sequence [8x] - Fastener Specifications
- EN-52476 Flywheel Holding Tool (1) - Remove
- Remove the J-21366 Converter Holding Strap from the transmission bell housing.
- Using the GE-52200 Powertrain and Battery Lifter, mate the transmission and the NEW engine together.
- Transmission - Install - Transmission Replacement (Rear Wheel Drive) , or Transmission Replacement (All Wheel Drive)
- Check the transmission fluid level. Transmission Fluid Level and Condition Check
Front Wheel Drive Intermediate Shaft Retaining Ring (1) - Install NEW
- Apply a small amount of lubricant to the front wheel drive intermediate shaft (2) splines. Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers
- Install the front wheel drive intermediate shaft (2) into the front differential carrier (3).
- NOTE:
The Front Wheel Drive Intermediate Shaft and Front Differential Carrier are to be installed as a assembly.
Position and secure the front differential carrier (2) on a transmission jack.
- Install the front wheel drive intermediate shaft (1) and the front differential carrier (2).
Front Differential Carrier Bolt (1) - Install and hand tighten
Front Differential Carrier Bolt (1) - Install and hand tighten [2x]
- Front Differential Carrier Bolt (2) - Install and hand tighten
- Front Differential Carrier Bolt - Tighten [4x] - Fastener Specifications
Install the front axle vent hose (1).
Engine Coolant Heater Exhaust Pipe (3) @ Engine Coolant Flow Control Valve - Install
- Hose Clamp (2) - Engage - Hose Clamp Replacement Guidelines - Spring Type
- Engine Coolant Heater Exhaust Pipe Bolt (1) - Install - Fastener Specifications
Engine Coolant Air Bleed Pipe (1) - Install
Engine Coolant Air Bleed Pipe (2) @ Hose Clamp (1) - Engage - Hose Clamp Replacement Guidelines - Spring Type
Engine Coolant Air Bleed Pipe (2) @ Engine Coolant Air Bleed Hose - Install
- Hose Clamp (1) - Engage - Hose Clamp Replacement Guidelines - Spring Type
Engine Coolant Air Bleed Pipe Bolt (1) - Install and tighten [2x] - Fastener Specifications
Engine Mount Nut- Left Side (1) - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications
Engine Mount Nut- Right Side (1) - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications
- Connect the transmission vent hose to the transmission.
- Connect the transmission vent hose to the engine.
- Align the torque converter to flex plate orientation marks made during the removal procedure.
Position harness to new engine.
- Connect the electrical connector. (1)
- Install the retainers. (2)
Wiring Harness Retainer (1) - Engage [6X]
- Connect electrical connectors, retainers at engine mounts, and related components as needed.
- NOTE:
For proper alignment of all torque converter bolts, install the first torque converted bolt in the oval shaped hole.
Prepare the transmission torque converter bolts (1) for installation as follows:
- Remove any loose cured adhesive from the external threads of the components using a lint free cloth.
- Thread the cleaned components into the internal mating threads and remove to loosen trapped cured adhesive.
- Apply thread locking adhesive to the external threads of the components. Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers
- Ensure there are no gaps in the thread locking adhesive once applied to the component.
- Transmission Torque Converter Bolt (1) - Install and tighten [6x] - Fastener Specifications
Front Wheel Drive Intermediate Shaft Bracket (1) - Install
- Front Wheel Drive Intermediate Shaft Bracket Bolt (2) - Install and tighten [3x] - Fastener Specifications
Apply a small amount of lubricant to the front wheel drive intermediate shaft splines. Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers
- Front Wheel Drive Intermediate Shaft Seal (2) - Install NEW
- Front Wheel Drive Intermediate Shaft Retaining Ring (1) - Install NEW
Apply a small amount of grease to the front wheel drive intermediate shaft splines. Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers
NOTE:Ensure that the front wheel drive half shaft (1) is securely engaged to the front wheel drive intermediate shaft.
Front Wheel Drive Half Shaft (1) - Install
Steering Linkage Outer Tie Rod (1) @ Steering Knuckle - Install
- Steering Linkage Outer Tie Rod Nut (2) - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications
- NOTE:
The final torque on the steering knuckle nut (1) is to be applied during the front camber adjustment procedure.
Front Suspension Strut @ Steering Knuckle - Install
- Steering Knuckle Bolt (2) - Install [2x]
- Steering Knuckle Nut (1) - Install and hand tighten [2x]
- Have an assistant apply the brakes.
- CAUTION:
Refer to Torque-to-Yield Fastener Caution .
Front Wheel Drive Shaft Nut (1) - Install NEW and tighten - Fastener Specifications
Retaining Ring (2) @ Front Wheel Drive Half Shaft (1) - Install NEW
Front Wheel Drive Shaft Retaining Ring (2) @ Front Wheel Drive Half Shaft (1) - Install NEW
Front Wheel Drive Half Shaft (1) - Install
Partially install the front wheel drive half shaft (1) into the front differential carrier.
- Remove the DT-51504 Seal Protector (2) from the front axle shaft seal.
- Completely install the front wheel drive half shaft (1) into the front differential carrier.
Steering Linkage Outer Tie Rod (2) @ Steering Knuckle - Install
- Steering Linkage Outer Tie Rod Nut (1) - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications
- NOTE:
The final torque on the steering knuckle nut (2) is to be applied during the front camber adjustment procedure.
Front Suspension Strut @ Steering Knuckle - Install
- Steering Knuckle Bolt (1) - Install [2x]
- Steering Knuckle Nut (2) - Install and hand tighten [2x]
- Have an assistant apply the brakes.

Refer to Torque-to-Yield Fastener Caution .
Front Wheel Drive Shaft Nut (1) - Install NEW and tighten - Fastener Specifications
If the transfer case front output shaft boot (1) was removed, perform the following:
- Loosely install a NEW transfer case front output shaft boot clamp (2) to the groove of the transfer case front output shaft boot (1).
- Install the transfer case front output shaft boot (1) to the front axle propeller shaft groove ensuring that it is completely engaged.
- Using the DT-35910 Drive Axle Seal Clamp Pliers (3), crimp the transfer case front output shaft boot clamp (2) until the final crimped diameter (a) of 37.5 mm (1.48 in) is achieved.
Loosely install a NEW transfer case front output shaft boot clamp (3) into the groove of the transfer case front output shaft boot (2).
- Front Axle Propeller Shaft (1) - Install
Prepare the 6 front axle propeller shaft bolts (1) for installation as follows:
- Remove any loose cured adhesive from the external threads of the components using a lint free cloth.
- Thread the cleaned components into the internal mating threads and remove to loosen trapped cured adhesive.
- Apply thread locking adhesive to the external threads of the components. Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers
- Ensure there are no gaps in the thread locking adhesive once applied to the component.
- Align the marks made between the front axle propeller shaft (2) and the front differential carrier flange.
- Front Axle Propeller Shaft Washer (3) - Install [3x]
- Install and tighten the 6 front axle propeller shaft bolts (1) in a crisscross pattern. Fastener Specifications
Ensure that the front transfer case front output shaft boot (2) is completely engaged into the transfer case front output shaft.
- Ensure that the front transfer case front output shaft boot clamp (1) is completely engaged into the front transfer case front output shaft boot (2).
Using the DT-35910 Drive Axle Seal Clamp Pliers (1), crimp the transfer case front output shaft boot clamp (2) until the final crimped diameter (a) of 37.5 mm (1.48 in) is achieved.
Transmission Mount Bracket Bolt (1) - Loosely install [4x]
Transmission Mount Bracket Bolt (1) - Tighten [4x] - Fastener Specifications
- Remove the jack from beneath the transmission.
Front Axle Propeller Shaft Heat Shield (3) - Install
- Front Axle Propeller Shaft Heat Shield Bolt (1) - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications
- Front Axle Propeller Shaft Heat Shield Stud (2) - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications
Starter (3) - Install
- Starter Bolt (2) - Install and tighten [2x] - Fastener Specifications
- Starter Stud (1) - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications
Auxiliary Generator Battery Jumper Cable (2) - Install
- Battery Positive Cable Nut (1) @ Starter Solenoid - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications
Electrical Connector (1) - Connect
Auxiliary Generator Battery Jumper Cable (3) - Install
- Battery Negative Cable Nut (1) @ Starter Stud - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications
- Engine Wiring Harness Retainer (2) - Engage [2x]
Oil Level Indicator Tube Seal (2) - Install NEW
- Oil Level Indicator Tube (1) - Install
Oil Level Indicator Tube Bracket Bolt (2) - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications
- Electrical Connector (1) @ Oil Level Indicator (3) - Clip
Oil Level Indicator (1) - Install
Use a suitable tool to rotate the drive belt tensioner (1) counterclockwise and hold.
Accessory Drive Primary Belt (1) - Install NEW
- Slowly release tension on the drive belt tensioner.
Radiator Outlet Hose (2) @ Engine - Install
- Radiator Outlet Hose Clamp (1) @ Engine - Engage [2x] - Hose Clamp Replacement Guidelines - Spring Type
Radiator Inlet Hose (2) @ Engine Coolant Flow Control Valve - Install
- Radiator Inlet Hose Clamp (1) - Engage - Hose Clamp Replacement Guidelines - Spring Type
Charge Air Cooler Outlet Air Tube (2) @ Throttle Body (3) - Install
- Retainer Spring (1) - Engage
Charge Air Cooler Inlet Air Tube (2) @ Turbocharger (3) - Install
- Retainer Spring (1) - Engage
Catalytic Converter Brace Bracket (2) - Install
- Catalytic Converter Brace Bracket Bolt (1) - Install and tighten [2x] - Fastener Specifications
Catalytic Converter Brace Bracket (2) - Install
- Catalytic Converter Brace Bracket Nut (1) - Install and tighten [2x] - Fastener Specifications
Catalytic Converter Gasket (2) - Install NEW
- Warm Up Three-Way Catalytic Converter (1) - Install
Exhaust Pipe Clamp (1) - Install NEW
Catalytic Converter Brace Bolt (1) - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications
Catalytic Converter Brace Bolt (1) - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications
Exhaust Pipe Clamp (1) - Tighten - Fastener Specifications
- Connect both heated oxygen sensor electrical connectors.
Engine Coolant Air Bleed Pipe Bolt (2) - Install and tighten [2x] - Fastener Specifications
Automatic Transmission Fluid Cooling Exchanger (2) - Install
- Transmission Fluid Auxiliary Cooler Bracket Nut (1) - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications
Transmission Fluid Auxiliary Cooler Bolt (1) - Install and tighten [2x] - Fastener Specifications
Automatic Transmission Fluid Cooling Heat Exchanger Inlet Hose (2) - Install
- Automatic Transmission Fluid Cooling Heat Exchanger Inlet Hose Clamp (1) @ Automatic Transmission Fluid Cooling Exchanger - Install [2x] - Hose Clamp Replacement Guidelines - Spring Type
Automatic Transmission Fluid Cooling Heat Exchanger Outlet Hose (2) - Install
- Automatic Transmission Fluid Cooling Heat Exchanger Outlet Hose Clamp (1) @ Automatic Transmission Fluid Cooling Exchanger - Install [2x] - Hose Clamp Replacement Guidelines - Spring Type
- Connect the remaining electrical connectors and hoses as necessary.
- Remove the straps and binders securing the powertrain to the support table.
- Ensure the following components are clear from the frame:
- Vacuum lines
- Steering knuckles
- Electrical wiring harnesses
- Oil cooler lines
Position the engine and transmission (1) on the GE-52200 Powertrain and Battery Lifter (2) to the vehicle and raise into position.
Drivetrain and Front Suspension Cradle Front Bolt (1) - Install and tighten [4x] - Fastener Specifications
- Drivetrain and Front Suspension Cradle Rear Bolt (2) - Install and tighten [2x] - Fastener Specifications
Transmission Mount Bracket Bolt (1) - Loosely install [4x]
Transmission Mount Bracket Bolt (1) - Tighten [4x] - Fastener Specifications
- Remove the GE-52200 Powertrain and Battery Lifter from under the vehicle.
Position the intermediate steering shaft (1) in the vehicle.
- Intermediate Steering Shaft (1) @ Electric Belt Drive Rack and Pinion Steering Gear - Install
Prepare the intermediate steering shaft lower bolt (1) for installation as follows:
- Remove any loose cured adhesive from the external threads of the component using a lint free cloth.
- Thread the cleaned component into the internal mating threads and remove to loosen trapped cured adhesive.
- Apply thread locking adhesive to the external threads of the component. Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers
- Ensure there are no gaps in the thread locking adhesive once applied to the component.
- Intermediate Steering Shaft Lower Bolt (1) - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications
Mid Lower Intermediate Steering Shaft (1) @ Intermediate Steering Shaft - Install
- Prepare the mid intermediate steering shaft bolt (2) for installation as follows:
- Remove any loose cured adhesive from the external threads of the component using a lint free cloth.
- Thread the cleaned component into the internal mating threads and remove to loosen trapped cured adhesive.
- Apply thread locking adhesive to the external threads of the component. Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers
- Ensure there are no gaps in the thread locking adhesive once applied to the component.
- Mid Intermediate Steering Shaft Bolt (2) @ Intermediate Steering Shaft - Install - Fastener Specifications
- Remove the device preventing the steering column from rotating.
Front Crossmember Brace-Left Side (3) - Install
- Front Crossmember Brace Nut-Left Side (2) - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications
- Front Crossmember Brace Bolt-Left Side (1) - Install and tighten [4x] - Fastener Specifications
Front Crossmember Brace-Right Side (3) - Install
- Front Crossmember Brace Nut-Right Side (2) - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications
- Front Crossmember Brace Bolt-Right Side (1) - Install and tighten [4x] - Fastener Specifications
- Radiator Air Front Lower Baffle - INSTALL
- NOTE:
Left side shown, right side similar.
Front Wheelhouse Liner (3) - Install [2x]
- Front Wheelhouse Liner Retainer (2) - Install [6x]

Front Bumper Fascia Center Air Deflector Screws (1) - Install and tighten [3x] Fastener Specifications

- Front Compartment Air Deflector Bolt (1) - Install and tighten [4x] - Fastener Specifications
Front Wheelhouse Liner Bolt (3) - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications
- Engine Front Splash Shield Retainer (2) - Install [2x]
- Engine Front Splash Shield Bolt (1) - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications
Front Wheelhouse Liner Bolt (1) - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications
- Engine Front Splash Shield Retainer (2) - Install [2x]
- Engine Front Splash Shield Bolt (3) - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications

- Front Bumper Fascia Center Air Deflector Bolt (1) - Install and tighten [5x] - Fastener Specifications
- Lower the vehicle.

Front Tire Front Air Deflector Bolt (1) - Install [8x] - Fastener Specifications
- Front Tire Front Air Deflector (2) - Install [2x]
- Reposition and connect wiring harness and hoses as needed.
Apply a thin layer of grease to the transmission output shaft splines (1). Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers
- Loosely install a NEW propeller shaft hub clamp (3) to the propeller shaft joint boot.
- Support and secure the propeller shaft (2) to a suitable hydraulic jack stand.
- Propeller Shaft (2) - Install
Prepare the 2 propeller shaft bearing support bolts (1) for installation as follows:
- Remove any loose cured adhesive from the external threads of the components using a lint free cloth.
- Thread the cleaned components into the internal mating threads and remove to loosen trapped cured adhesive.
- Apply thread locking adhesive to the external threads of the components. Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers
- Ensure there are no gaps in the thread locking adhesive once applied to the component.
- Propeller Shaft Bearing Support Bolt (1) - Install and tighten [2x] - Fastener Specifications
- Remove the hydraulic jack stand supporting the propeller shaft.
Prepare the 3 rear propeller shaft bolts (1) and nuts (3) for installation as follows:
- Remove any loose cured adhesive from the external threads of the components using a lint free cloth.
- Thread the cleaned components into the internal mating threads and remove to loosen trapped cured adhesive.
- Apply thread locking adhesive to the external threads of the components. Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers
- Ensure there are no gaps in the thread locking adhesive once applied to the component.
- Align the relationship marks (2) made on the propeller shaft and the rear differential flange.
- Rear Propeller Shaft Bolt (1) - Install [3x]
- Rear Propeller Shaft Nut (3) - Loosely install [3x]
- Rear Propeller Shaft Bolt (1) - Tighten [3x] - Fastener Specifications
- Ensure that the drive shaft boot is completely seated in the output shaft groove prior to crimping the propeller shaft hub clamp (2).
- Using the DT-35910 Drive Axle Seal Clamp Pliers (1), crimp the propeller shaft hub clamp (2) until the final crimped outer diameter (a) is 39 - 41 mm (1.54 - 1.61 in).

- Floor Panel Number 2 Cross Bar Reinforcement Bolt (2) - Install and tighten [4x] - Fastener Specifications
Exhaust Intermediate Underbody Heat Shield (2) - Install
- Exhaust Heat Shield Bolt (1) - Install and tighten [6x] - Fastener Specifications

With the aid of an assistant.
Catalytic Converter Gasket (2) - Install NEW

- NOTE:
Ensure the transmission control is in the park position and the automatic transmission range selector lever is in the park position.
Slide the automatic transmission range selector locking ring (1) in the direction of the arrow then install the automatic transmission range selector (3) into the automatic transmission range selector lever (4).
- Ensure the automatic transmission range selector cable retainer (2) is fully engaged then slide the automatic transmission range selector locking ring (1) in the opposite direction of the arrow to lock the automatic transmission range selector cable (3) into the automatic transmission range selector lever (4).
Install the automatic transmission range selector cable (2) into the automatic transmission range selector lever cable bracket.
- If NEW threaded components are being installed, loosen the adhesive using a metal pick or similar tool before proceeding. If threaded components are reused, prepare the threaded components using the following steps:
- Remove any loose cured adhesive from the external threads of the components using a lint free cloth.
- Thread the cleaned components into the internal mating threads and remove to loosen trapped cured adhesive.
- Remove loose debris from internal and external threads using compressed air.
- Apply liquid thread locking adhesive in a strip along half of the length of the external threads, starting at the tip, just prior to installation. Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers
- Automatic Transmission Range Selector Lever Cable Bolt (1) - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications
- If necessary, adjust the automatic transmission range selector lever cable. Automatic Transmission Range Selector Lever Cable Adjustment
- Partially lower vehicle.

Air Conditioning Condenser Hose Seal (2) - Install NEW
- Air Conditioning Refrigerant Heat Exchanger (1) @ Air Conditioning Condenser - Install
Air Conditioning Compressor and Condenser Hose Seal (2) - Install NEW
- Air Conditioning Evaporative Connector Hose/Tube and Compressor Hose (1) @ Air Conditioning Condenser - Install
Air Conditioning Condenser Tube Clip (2) - Install
- Air Conditioning Condenser Hose Nut (1) @ Air Conditioning Condenser - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications
Position the air conditioning refrigerant heat exchanger to its original position.
- Air Conditioning Evaporator Tube Clip Bracket Bolt (4) - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications
- Air Conditioning Evaporator Thermal Expansion Valve Seal (3) - Install NEW
- Air Conditioning Evaporative Connector Hose/Tube and Compressor Hose (2) @ Air Conditioning Refrigerant Heat Exchanger - Install
- Air Conditioning Compressor Hose Nut (1) - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications
Air Conditioning Compressor Hose Seal (3) - Install NEW
- Air Conditioning Evaporator Thermal Expansion Valve Seal (2) - Install NEW
- Air Conditioning Evaporative Connector Hose/Tube and Compressor Hose (1) @ Air Conditioning Compressor - Install
Air Conditioning Compressor Hose Nut (1) @ Air Conditioning Compressor - Install and tighten [2x] - Fastener Specifications
- Connect the electrical connector.
Reconnect the 3 electrical connectors (1) to the engine control module.
- Connect the remaining portion of the Engine harness connectors retainers and ground wires as needed.
Body Wiring Harness Junction Block Bracket (2) - Install
- Body Wiring Harness Fuse Block Bracket Bolt (1) - Install and tighten [2x] - Fastener Specifications
Install the engine wiring harness fuse block bracket (2) to the body wiring harness junction block bracket (3). Re-engage the 3 retaining tabs (1).
Install the 2 electrical connectors (1) and engage the 2 retaining covers (2).
Engine Wiring Harness Junction Block (3) - Install

- Engine Wiring Harness Junction Block Bolt (1) - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications

- Connect the cooling fan electrical connector.
- Connect the ground wire on the frame before installing the air cleaner.
Install the air cleaner (1) and air cleaner outlet duct (2) as an assembly.
Air Cleaner Bolt (1) - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications
- Air Cleaner Outlet Duct Clamp (2) - Tighten - Fastener Specifications
Wiring Harness Retainer (1) @ Air Cleaner Assembly - Install [4x]
- Connect the electrical connector.
Positive Crankcase Ventilation Tube (1) - Install
- Positive Crankcase Ventilation Tube (1) - Connect [2x] - Plastic Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service

Evaporative Emission Canister Purge Tube (1) - Install
- Connect the quick disconnects and install the retainer. Plastic Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service
Upper Intake Manifold Bracket (2) - Install
- Upper Intake Manifold Cover Nut (1) - Install and tighten [2x] - Fastener Specifications

- Install the front tire and wheel assemblies. Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation
- Connect the battery. Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection
- Fill the cooling system. Cooling System Draining and Filling (LSY GE 47716) , or Cooling System Draining and Filling (LSY Static Fill) , or Cooling System Draining and Filling (LSY with V03 Static Fill) , or Cooling System Draining and Filling (LSY with V03 GE 47716)
- Fill the engine oil to the proper level with NEW engine oil. Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement (RWD) , or Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement (AWD)
- If the engine is replaced with a new engine or has been overhauled, perform the Engine Prelubing procedure. Engine Prelubing
- Recharge the refrigerant. Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging
- Perform the engine oil life reset. GM Oil Life System Resetting (With Scan Tool) , or GM Oil Life System Resetting (Without Scan Tool)
- Perform the crankshaft position variation learn. Crankshaft Position Variation Learn
- Perform the throttle body idle air flow compensation reset. Throttle Body Idle Air Flow Compensation Reset
- Check for leaks.
- Perform front end alignment due to struts being disconnected. Wheel Alignment Measurement
Intake Manifold Cover (1) @ Upper Intake Manifold Bracket (2) - Install
- NOTE:
Ensure the engine sight shield retainers fully engage the intake manifold cover studs.
Push down on the front of the intake manifold cover (1) engaging the intake manifold cover retainers to the intake manifold cover studs.
Install the oil fill cap.
Refer to Fastener Caution .
This vehicle is equipped with torque-to-yield or single use fasteners. Install a NEW torque-to-yield or single use fastener when installing this component. Failure to replace the torque-to-yield or single use fastener could cause damage to the vehicle or component.
Hold on the balance shaft sprocket (3) with a suitable wrench to tighten the balance shaft sprocket bolt (4).
This vehicle is equipped with torque-to-yield or single use fasteners. Install a NEW torque-to-yield or single use fastener when installing this component. Failure to replace the torque-to-yield or single use fastener could cause damage to the vehicle or component.
To prevent loosening the harmonic balancer bolt, rotate the harmonic balancer center bolt clockwise ONLY.
Ensure that the front wheel drive half shaft (1) is securely engaged to the front wheel drive intermediate shaft.
Ensure that the cable is properly aligned to the transmission bracket prior to tightening the fastener in order to avoid any damage to the cable and/or bracket. Failure to perform this task can result in the shifter moving out of the Park position unintentionally, causing potential vehicle damage and bodily injury.
Ensure the automatic transmission range selector cable is aligned to the automatic transmission range selector lever cable bracket prior to tightening.
Prelube is necessary if the engine is replaced or overhauled.
