Schematic Reference: Instrument Cluster Schematics 
DEFINITION: This diagnostic procedure applies only to the serial data gages located in the instrument cluster which include the engine coolant temperature gage and volt gage, if equipped.
1 Did you perform the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle? - Go to Step 2  Go to Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle

  1. Turn the ignition ON, with the engine OFF.
  2. Install a scan tool.
  3. With the scan tool, perform the Displays Test.
Does the gage move from 0 to its maximum value and back to 0 when you perform the Displays Test?		 - Go to Step 3  Go to Step 4

  1. Install a scan tool.
  2. Start the engine.
  3. Observe the suspect gage parameter in the engine control module (ECM) Data list. Refer to Scan Tool Data List .
Does the parameter match the gage display?		 - Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections Go to Step 4 
4 Replace the instrument panel cluster (IPC). Refer to Control Module References for replacement, setup and programming.
Did you complete the replacement?		 - Go to Step 5  -

  1. Use the scan tool in order to clear any induced DTCs.
  2. Operate the system in order to verify the repair.
Did you correct the condition?		 - System OK Go to Step 2
