Installation Procedure
- Engine @ Transmission - Install Transmission Replacement (3.6L LGX)
- Place the powertrain assembly on the frame.
Transmission Rear Mount (3) - Install - Transmission Rear Mount Replacement (3.6L LGX)
Transmission Front Mount (3) - Install - Transmission Front Mount Replacement
- Place the powertrain and frame assembly on the engine support table.
- With the aid of an assistant, carefully lower the body to the frame. (1)
- Ensure the following components are clear from the frame:
- Vacuum lines
- Steering knuckles
- Electrical wiring harnesses
- CAUTION:
Drivetrain and Front Suspension Support Bolt (1) - Install and tighten [4x] - Drivetrain and Front Suspension Cradle Replacement (LGX)
- Drivetrain and Front Suspension Support Bolt (2) - Install and tighten [8x] - Drivetrain and Front Suspension Cradle Replacement (LGX)
Transmission Mount Bolt (2) - Install [4x] - Transmission Mount Replacement
Engine Mount Fastener (1) - Install NEW [3x] - Engine Mount Replacement - Right Side
- Special Tool EN-48244 Engine Assembly Remove/Install Pallet Supporter - Remove
Front Compartment Splash Shield (4) - Install - Front Compartment Splash Shield Replacement
Connect the electrical connector on the steering gear and connect the wiring harness clip on the steering gear housing. (1)
Stabilizer Shaft Link (2) @ Stabilizer Shaft - Install - Stabilizer Shaft Link Replacement
Steering Linkage Outer Tie Rod (3) @ Steering Knuckle - Install - Steering Linkage Outer Tie Rod Replacement
{ If equipped }Front Suspension Automatic Forward Lighting Position Sensor (1) @ Front Lower Control Arm - Connect
- Position and connect harnesses as required.
- Front Wheel Drive Half Shaft @ Front Wheel Bearing and Hub Assembly - Install - Front Wheel Drive Half Shaft Replacement - Left Side
Torque Converter @ Flex Plate - Install
- Turn the engine at the crankshaft balance clockwise with a suitable tool, until a torque converter bolt (1) shows up.
- Service may offer bolts without microencapsulated thread locking adhesive. If this is the case, apply thread locking adhesive to the bolt.
- If fasteners are microencapsulated, install NEW torque converter to flex plate bolts. Do NOT reuse the old bolts.
- Install the first NEW torque converter bolt (1) and tighten to 60 N.m (44 lb ft)
- Turn the engine at the crankshaft balancer clockwise 60 degrees.
- Install the second NEW torque converter bolt and tighten to 60 N.m (44 lb ft)
- Repeat the previous 2 steps for the other 4 torque converter bolt.
NOTE:- Starter - Install - Starter Replacement (3.6L LGX)
- Remove the plugs from the transmission fluid cooler inlet and outlet pipe.
Install a NEW sealing washer. (3)
- Transmission Fluid Cooler Outlet Pipe (2) @ Transmission - Install
- Transmission Fluid Cooler Outlet Pipe Nut (1) - Install and tighten 22 N.m (16 lb ft)
Transmission Fluid Cooler Outlet Pipe (1) @ Transmission - Clip
Transmission Fluid Cooler Inlet Pipe (1) @ Transmission - Install - Transmission Fluid Cooler Hose/Pipe Quick-Connect Fitting Disconnection and Connection
Transmission Fluid Cooler Inlet Pipe Bolt (1) - Install and tighten 9 N.m (80 lb in)
Evaporative Emission Front Pipe (1) @ Retainer - Install
- Evaporative Emission Front Pipe (1) @ Evaporative Emission Canister Purge Solenoid Valve - Connect - Plastic Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service
Fuel Feed Pipe (1) @ Retainer - Install
- Fuel Feed Pipe (1) @ Fuel Rail - Connect - Metal Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service
- Power Transfer Unit Case - Install - Power Transfer Unit Case Replacement
- Three-Way Catalytic Converter-Both Sides - Install - Three-Way Catalytic Converter Replacement (Bank 1) , or Three-Way Catalytic Converter Replacement (Bank 2)
- Front Wheelhouse Liner-Both Sides - Install - Front Wheelhouse Liner Replacement (LGX)
- Install the front tire and wheel assemblies. Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation
Air Conditioning Compressor and Condenser Hose (2) @ Air Conditioning Compressor - Install - Air Conditioning Compressor Hose Replacement
- Radiator Outlet Hose - Install - Radiator Outlet Hose Replacement (3.6L LGX without Engine Oil Cooler) , or Radiator Outlet Hose Replacement (3.6L LGX with Engine Oil Cooler)
Radiator Inlet Hose (2) - Install - Radiator Inlet Hose Replacement (3.6L LGX)
Heater Outlet Hose (2) @ Heater Core Tube - Connect - Heater Outlet Hose Replacement (3.6L LGX)
Heater Inlet Hose (2) @ Heater Core Tube - Connect - Heater Inlet Hose Replacement (3.6L LGX)
Power Brake Booster Vacuum Pipe (2) @ Power Brake Booster - Connect - Plastic Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service
Radiator Surge Tank - Install - Radiator Surge Tank Replacement
Transmission Range Selector Lever Cable (3) @ Transmission Range Selector Lever (2) - Connect
- Automatic Transmission Range Selector Lever Cable Bolt (1) - Install and tighten 9 N.m (80 lb in)
- Air Cleaner Assembly - Install - Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement
Intermediate Steering Shaft (2) @ Steering Gear - Connect - Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement
- Connect the battery negative cable. Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection (3.6L LGX)
- If the engine is replaced with a new engine or has been overhauled, perform the Engine Prelubing procedure. Engine Prelubing
- Fill the engine oil to the proper level with NEW engine oil. Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement
- Fill the cooling system. Cooling System Draining and Filling
- Recharge the refrigerant. Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging (R-1234yf)
- Perform the crankshaft position variation learn. Crankshaft Position Variation Learn
Prelube is necessary if the engine is replaced or overhauled.
