Removal Procedure

- Recover the refrigerant. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
- Remove the oil level indicator tube. Refer to Oil Level Indicator Tube Replacement .
- Install the engine support fixture. Refer to Engine Support Fixture .
- Remove the engine mount. Refer to Engine Mount Replacement .
- Lift the engine as high as necessary to increase enough space between oil pan and front suspension frame.
- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
- If equipped, remove the front compartment insulator. Refer to Front Compartment Insulator Replacement .
- Drain the engine oil. Refer to Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement .
- Remove the A/C compressor bracket. Refer to Air Conditioning Compressor Bracket Replacement .
- Remove the catalytic converter brace. Refer to Catalytic Converter Brace Replacement (2.0L LHU) .
- Disconnect the oil level sensor wiring harness plug (2) from the oil level sensor (1).
- Remove the 4 gearbox bolts (1) from the gearbox.
- Remove the long oil pan bolt (3).
- Remove the 14 short oil pan bolts (2).
- Remove the oil pan (1).
- Remove the oil level sensor from the oil pan. Refer to Engine Oil Level Sensor Replacement .
CAUTION:
Pry the oil pan carefully in order to prevent damage to the transaxle case or the oil pan sealing surfaces.
