Removal Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
  1. Recover the refrigerant. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
  2. Remove the oil level indicator tube. Refer to Oil Level Indicator Tube Replacement .
  3. Install the engine support fixture. Refer to Engine Support Fixture .
  4. Remove the engine mount. Refer to Engine Mount Replacement .
  5. Lift the engine as high as necessary to increase enough space between oil pan and front suspension frame.
  6. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
  7. If equipped, remove the front compartment insulator. Refer to Front Compartment Insulator Replacement .
  8. Drain the engine oil. Refer to Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement .
  9. Remove the A/C compressor bracket. Refer to Air Conditioning Compressor Bracket Replacement .
  10. Remove the catalytic converter brace. Refer to Catalytic Converter Brace Replacement (2.0L LHU) .

  12. Disconnect the oil level sensor wiring harness plug (2) from the oil level sensor (1).

  14. Remove the 4 gearbox bolts (1) from the gearbox.

  16. Remove the long oil pan bolt (3).
  17. Remove the 14 short oil pan bolts (2).
  18. CAUTION:

    Pry the oil pan carefully in order to prevent damage to the transaxle case or the oil pan sealing surfaces.

  19. Remove the oil pan (1).
  20. Remove the oil level sensor from the oil pan. Refer to Engine Oil Level Sensor Replacement .
