Installation Procedure
- Position the wheel drive shaft (1) in the vehicle.
- Install the rear wheel hub bracket. Refer to Rear Wheel Hub Bracket Replacement .
- Install the NEW wheel drive shaft nut (1).
- Have an assistant apply the brakes.
- Using the torque wrench and the proper size socket (1), tighten the wheel drive shaft nut to:
Tighten
- First Pass: 150 N.m (111 lb ft)
- Second Pass: loosen 45 degrees
- Final Pass: retighten to 250 N.m (185 lb ft)
- Check the fluid level of the rear axle. Add fluid if needed. Refer to Rear Axle Lubricant Level Inspection .
- Install the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation .
- Remove the support and lower the vehicle.
CAUTION:
DT-51504 must be installed into the differential output shaft seal prior to removing and installing the wheel drive shaft. Failure to install the DT-51504 as indicated may cause the splines of the wheel drive shaft to damage the differential output seal
NOTE:
Apply a small amount of lubricant on the wheel drive shaft splines and the contact area of the axle seal to the wheel drive shaft.
