Remove the backrest frame for the front seat

Description is for left component only. Procedure on the right side is identical.
Preliminary work
- Refer to CHECKING THE FRONT SEAT FOR DAMAGE .
- Refer to REMOVING FRONT SEAT .
- Refer to REMOVING THE REAR PANEL OF THE FRONT SEAT BACKREST .
- Refer to REMOVING OUTER COVER ON FRONT SEAT .
- Refer to REMOVING INNER COVER ON FRONT SEAT .
- Refer to REMOVING LUMBAR SUPPORT ON FRONT SEAT .
- Refer to INSTALLING HEAD RESTRAINT ON FRONT SEAT .

- Removing side airbag from front seat.WARNING:
Airbag unit.
Danger! Immobilization period-threatening injuries!
- Before working on the airbag, disconnect the negative battery cable from the battery.
- Airbag unit may only be set down with the cushion (airbag itself) facing upwards.

Danger! Immobilization period-threatening injuries!
- All work on pyrotechnic parts may be carried out by technically experienced and appropriately trained personnel only.
- Replace any damaged part or ones that have been dropped.

- Detach the backrest cover (1) in signaled area.
- Loosen clip (1).
- Detach the backrest cover (2) in this area (3).
- Unlock plug connection (1) and disconnect.
- Cover the area around the rivet head (2).
- Drill out the rivet head (2).
- Remove the airbag module from the backrest frame and lining pocket (3) in the direction of the arrow.
- Fully remove rivet remnants.
- Refer to REMOVING THE BACKREST COVER WITH THE UPHOLSTERY FOR THE FRONT SEAT .
- Unlock plug connection (1) and disconnect.
- Detach wiring harness (2) from all cable clips and remove.
- Loosen screws (1).
- Remove the backrest frame (2) from the seat mechanism (3).
