Removing Trunk Lid (On Replacement)
Preliminary work
- Refer to REMOVING TRUNK COMPARTMENT LIGHT ON TRUNK LID .
- Refer to REMOVE THE POWER TAILGATE SWITCH .
- Refer to REMOVE TAILGATE TRIM PANEL .
- Refer to REMOVING THE WATER SUPPLY AT THE TAIL LIGHT ON THE LEFT AND RIGHT .
- Refer to REMOVING TAIL LIGHT ON TAILGATE AT LEFT AND RIGHT .
- Refer to REMOVING THE TRUNK LID HANDLE .
- Refer to 3. REMOVING THE BRAKE WARNING LIGHT .
NOTE:
Perform the steps on the right and left side.
- Release rubber grommet (1) and feed out the wiring harness (2) inwards from the trunk lid.
- Release the brackets (arrowed) from the wiring harnesses at the trunk lid (1).
- Release the rubber grommets (3) from the trunk lid.
- Unlock all plug connections and disconnect.
- Release the wiring harnesses (1) and (2) with all their brackets (arrowed), guide them downwards out of the trunk lid and put them aside.CAUTION: Shutting hood or trunk lid .
Injury hazard!- Support hood/trunk lid in fully open position with the aid of a suitable device.
NOTE: TECHNICAL INFORMATION
The notes on the disassembly and installation of ball sockets with clamps are the basis for these repair instructions and must be observed without fail.
For additional information see: 51 23... Note information on disassembly/installation of ball sockets with clamp - Make sure that the ball socket (2) is not under stress.
- Use a suitable screwdriver (4) as shown to slightly lift the retaining spring (3) of the spring support (1).
- Release the spring support (1) at the top left of the trunk lid from the ball hub (2) of the trunk lid.CAUTION: Shutting hood or trunk lid .
Injury hazard!- Support hood/trunk lid in fully open position with the aid of a suitable device.

For additional information see: 51 23... Note information on disassembly/installation of ball sockets with clamp - Use a suitable screwdriver (3) to lift the clamp (2) of the hydraulic cylinder (1) at the right side of the trunk lid.
- Release the ball socket of the hydraulic cylinder (1) from the ball hub (4) at the top left of the trunk lid.NOTE: Perform the steps on the right and left side.
- Loosen nut (4).
- (3) Remove ground cable.
- Release screws (1) and remove trunk lid (2) with a support person.
