Removing crankshaft
Preliminary work
- Remove the front axle COMPLETELY with the engine and transmission.
- Remove the ENGINE from the front axle.
- Remove the lambda OXYGEN SENSOR .
- Remove the OXYGEN SENSOR MONITOR
- Remove CATALYTIC CONVERTER .
- Remove the right engine mount HOLDER .
- Prepare the ASSEMBLY JIG .
- Install the ENGINE on the assembly jig.
- Remove bearing BRACKET .
- Remove front axle DIFFERENTIAL .
- Drain the MOTOR OIL .
- Remove bottom clean AIR PIPE .
- Remove charge AIR LINE .
- Remove tank VENT VALVE .
- Remove the INTAKE PLENUM .
- Remove BOTH ACTUATORS
- Remove front engine ENCAPSULATION .
- Remove IGNITION COILS .
- Remove the HIGH PRESSURE LINE between the rail and the high pressure pump.
- Remove HIGH PRESSURE PUMP .
- Remove the cylinders 1 to 3 INJECTORS .
- Remove the cylinders 4 to 6 INJECTORS .
- Remove the cylinder head COVER .
- Detach OIL SUPPLY LINE from the engine block.
- Remove the exhaust turbocharger OIL RETURN LINE .
- Remove the exhaust turbocharger SUPPORT .
- Remove STARTER MOTOR .
- Turn the ENGINE on the vibration damper.
- Block the CRANKSHAFT in the TDC firing position of the first cylinder (automatic transmission).
- Block the CAMSHAFTS
- Remove CHAIN TENSIONER .
- Release the VANOS CENTRAL VALVE .
- Remove intake ADJUSTER .
- Remove exhaust camshaft ADJUSTER .
- Disassemble the SPECIAL TOOL 2 358 122 .
- Remove the AUXILIARY COOLANT PUMP .
- Remove the front section of the COOLANT RETURN LINE .
- Remove the (front section is removed) rear section of the COOLANT RETURN LINE .
- Remove the COOLANT FEED LINE (coolant return line is removed).
- Remove CYLINDER HEAD .
- Remove the cylinder HEAD GASKET .
- Seal the OIL DUCT .
- Remove the alternator DRIVE BELT .
- Remove the VIBRATION DAMPER .
- Remove FLYWHEEL .
- Remove the MAGNET WHEEL .
- Remove OIL PAN .
- Remove the oil VACUUM PUMP .
- Remove rear timing case COVER .
- Remove TIMING CHAINS .
- Remove the OIL DEFLECTOR .
- Remove all PISTONS with connecting rod.
NOTE:
RISK OF DAMAGE
Engine damage caused by incorrectly installed bearing shells and bearing brackets.
If the bearing shells and bearing brackets are installed incorrectly, then engine damage can occur.

- Always install all bearing shells and bearing brackets in the same position from which they were removed.
- Observe the assignment and numbering (1) to (7) of the main bearing caps.
(1) = Engine, front (vibration damper)
(7) = Clutch side
NOTE:
TECHNICAL INFORMATION
The crankshaft bearing cap, main bearing shell and guide bearing shell are aligned with each other.
Always install the crankshaft bearing cap, main bearing shells and guide bearing shells in the cylinder from which they were removed.

- Loosen screws in the order (14) to (1).
- Place the main bearing cap neatly into the special tool 0 495 105 (11 4 480) .

- Remove and install heavy components with the aid of another person/other persons.
- Remove the crankshaft (1).
