Replacing radial shaft seal for output flange (GS6-45BZ)

Special tools required: 

• 23 0 020
• 2 360 126
• 33 1 150
• 33 1 154
• 23 3 210
• 23 3 230

Use only the approved transmission oil.

Failure to comply with this instruction will result in serious damage to the transmission.

Necessary preliminary tasks: 

• Remove TRANSMISSION BEARING BLOCK .
• Remove propeller shaft. Refer to COMPLETELY REMOVE AND INSTALL THE PROPELLER SHAFT MADE OF STEEL (INSERTED AT THE REAR) or REMOVING AND INSTALLING CARBON PROPELLER SHAFT (INSERTED) COMPLETE .

Removal: 

Counter-support the output flange with special tool 23 0 020.

Loosen the collar nut with special tool 2 360 126.

Pull off the output flange (1) from the output shaft with special tool 33 1 150 and adapter plate 33 1 154.

Unscrew the screw on special tool 23 3 210.

Push special tool 23 3 210 over the output shaft and secure tightly in the sealing ring.

Once again fasten the screw in special tool 23 3 210 and continue turning until the sealing ring is pulled from the transmission housing.

If necessary, remove ring spring of the sealing ring.

Installation: 

Installation note: 

Coat the sealing lips of the new radial shaft seal with transmission oil.

Drive in radial shaft seal up to the limit position using special tool 23 3 230 and plastic hammer.

Fasten the collar nut with special tool 2 360 126.

Counter-support the output flange with special tool 23 0 020.

Secure collar nut with Loctite 243.

• Loctite 243: BMW Parts Department.
• Tightening torque: 23 21 1AZ .

Required follow-up work: 

• Install PROPELLER SHAFT .
• Install TRANSMISSION MOUNTING BRACKET .
