Removing and installing/replacing left or right tension strut
Attention!
Do not deflect ball joint pin from the tension strut > 25° during installation/disassembly. Non-compliance causes damage to the gaiter and premature wear in the ball joint!
Necessary preliminary tasks:
- Remove FRONT WHEEL .
- Remove FRONT WHEEL ARCH COVER (FRONT SECTION) .
Removal:
Loosen screw (1).
Lift the auxiliary water cooler (2) out of the holder and hang to the side.
Attention!
Risk of cooler fin damage.
Release screw (1).
Attention!
Risk of cooler fin damage (2).
Release nut (1), if necessary, grip at inner Torx socket.
Remove the trailing link (2).
Installation:
Risk of damage!
Observe assembly sequence.
Trailing link must be screwed in normal position!
(Adjustment of normal position, see below).
Position tension strut at the front axle support.
Part : Replace locking nut and screw (1).
Apply the screw (1) manually (do not tighten screw yet).
Move steering to straight-ahead position.
Adjust the trailing link with the swivel bearing for dimension (A).
- Dimension (A) = 7.5 cm (vehicle on the vehicle hoist, spring strut rebounded)
-
NOTE: Installing the tension strut to dimension (A) corresponds to the normal position in the compressed state.
Tighten tension strut at the front axle support.
Tightening torque 31 12 1AZ .
Keep tension strut to swivel bearing connection clean and free from oil and grease.
Press tension strut into swivel bearing.
Part: Replace nut (1).
