51 12 742 Replacing one shock absorber for rear bumper (touring)

(bumper removed) 

  1. If necessary, remove rear bumper, refer to REMOVING AND INSTALLING COMPLETE REAR BUMPER  .
  2. Remove cover or parcel shelf in trunk, refer to REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING COVER AND PARCEL SHELF IN TRUNK (TOURING) 

Release nuts (1) on Inside and remove shock absorber.

Installation: 

  1. Tightening Torque. Refer to BODY EQUIPMENT - TIGHTENING TORQUES .

Installation: 

  1. If necessary, fit a new gasket (1) and a new cover (2) to shock absorber (3).

Adjust bumper: 

Ideal adjustment:

Distance (A) must be the same all around between the bumper and body cutout.

Dimension (A) = 5 +/- 1 mm

Slacken inside nuts (1) on left/right and adjust height of bumper.

Installation: 

  1. Tightening Torque. Refer to BODY EQUIPMENT - TIGHTENING TORQUES .
