Removing and installing/replacing seat mechanism on left or right front seat (Except M4 GTS)
Improper handling may trigger the side airbag and as a result cause injuries.
Observe safety information on HANDLING AIRBAG MODULES AND PYROTECHNICAL SEAT BELT TENSIONERS .
Use of the universal seat mount is recommended for carrying out professional repairs.
Necessary preliminary tasks:
- Remove backrest cover with upholstery. Refer to REPLACING BACKREST COVER FOR DRIVER'S SEAT or REPLACING BACKREST COVER FOR FRONT PASSENGER SEAT .
- Remove seat cover with upholstery. Refer to REPLACING SEAT COVER FOR DRIVER'S SEAT or REPLACING SEAT COVER FOR FRONT PASSENGER SEAT .
- Remove lower strap on front left or right. Refer to REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING FRONT LOWER STRAP FITTING (BELT TENSIONER), DRIVER'S SEAT or REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING FRONT LOWER STRAP FITTING (BELT TENSIONER), FRONT PASSENGER SEAT .
- Release AIRBAG CABLE from seat mechanism
Unclip ball socket (1) from ball head on left and right.
Installation note:
Ball socket (1) must audibly snap into place.
Ball socket (1) must be able to move freely on the ball head.
Actuate rear catch (2) and remove guide for Bowden cable (3) by rotational movement towards the rear.
Release screws (1) on left and right.
Tightening torque 52 10 2AZ .
Remove backrest frame (2) upwards from the seat mechanism (3).
Unlock connector housing (1) and release to rear from the seat mechanism.
Unlock and disconnect all connectors (1).
Unlock holder (2) with screwdriver and feed out control unit (3) from the seat mechanism.
Feed out seat wiring harness from seat frame.
Replacement:
- REMOUNTING THE BACKREST ANGLE ADJUSTMENT DRIVE .
- Remounting the SEAT HEIGHT ADJUSTMENT DRIVE .
- REMOUNTING THE FORWARD/BACK SEAT ADJUSTMENT DRIVE .
- Remounting the SEAT ANGLE ADJUSTMENT DRIVE .
