Removing and installing or replacing side airbag, front left or right front seat (Except M4 Convertible)

Read and comply with SAFETY INFORMATION  for handling airbag modules and pyrotechnical belt tensioners.

Improper, unauthorized operations may result in serious dangers.

Unauthorized persons are strictly prohibited from performing any operations on this system. 

Necessary preliminary tasks: 

• Remove REAR PANEL ON FRONT SEAT BACKREST .

Detach welt (1) for backrest cover from the backrest frame.

Release cable strap (2).

Tilt backrest cover with upholstery slightly forwards

Unclip cable strap (1) from seat mechanism.

Detach airbag cable (1) from the seat mechanism at clip (2).

Feed out the airbag cable (1) from the seat mechanism in the marked area.

Release cable strap (1).

Unlock all connectors (2) from the connector housing (3) in direction of arrow.

Installation note: 

Make sure connector (2) is correctly latched in connector housing (3).

Unscrew nuts (1).

Tightening torque 72 12 03AZ .

Unlock catch (2).

Remove side airbag (3) and feed out the airbag cable from the backrest frame.

Installation note: 

Ensure that the airbag cable (1) is laid correctly through the bore hole in the backrest frame (2).
