Emergency operation with loading aid active (M4 Convertible)

IMPORTANT: Danger of injury by trapping!

Always perform the emergency operation with the aid of an assistant.

Only carry out a manual convertible top movement when the ignition is switched off!

Danger of damage to hydraulic valves.

The applied force must always be even on the left and right otherwise the linkage will bend.

Always execute all movements of the roof module with the assistance of a second person.

Step 1: 

Release clamps (1).

Feed out trim panel (2) in direction of arrow.

Installation note: 

If necessary, replace faulty clips (1).

Step 2: 

Release clamps (1).

Remove trim panel (2) in direction of arrow.

Installation note: 

Replace faulty clips (1).

Step 3: 

Release screw (1).

Step 4: 

Detach the locking plate (1) from the holder (2) and the shaft (3).

Step 5: 

Thread a suitable screw (1), for instance, M4x40 into the shaft (2).

Use pliers (3) to pull out the shaft (2).

Installation note: 

Installation of the shaft (2) is described under "DRIVE FOR LOADING AID" .

Step 6: 

Insert locking tab (1) into holder (2).

Step 7: 

Slide the anti-twist lock (2) as far as possible to the inside.

Tighten screw (1).

Tightening torque 54 37 30AZ .

Repeat steps 1 to 7 on the right side.

Step 8: 

Take out luggage compartment floor trim panel (1).

Fold the luggage area retractable cover down.

Step 9: 

Feed out control unit (1).

Use a hexagon socket (AF 4) to slowly open the shutoff valve on the hydraulic unit by three turns.

IMPORTANT: The system is de-pressurized and the roof shells drop.

With roof shells lowered, close shutoff valve.

Step 10: 

Press down the rear module (1) on both sides as far as it will go.

Step 11: 

Press up the control lever (1) as far as it will go.

Step 12: 

Press up the control lever (1) from the inside of the luggage compartment as far as it will go.

The microswitch on the back of the main bearing must audibly actuate.

Repeats steps 11 and 12 on the right side.

An intact hardtop can now be closed as normal.

IF NECESSARY, CARRY OUT A HARDTOP EMERGENCY CLOSING PROCEDURE .

IMPORTANT: After the emergency operation the hardtop must  not be moved any more.
