Prerequisite
- Ignition is switched off.

- Leave electrical components in original packaging until just before they are installed. Use the original packaging only for any return shipments. Always package removed components straight away.
- Read and comply with user information on using the associated special tool 12 7 060.
- Only tap the housings of electrical components. Do not tap pins or multi-pin connectors directly.
- Wear electrically conductive clothing and antistatic shoes (with ESD symbol).

- Screw all screw points of the cable ducts on again. Some of the screw points are also grounding points.

Disconnecting control units may cause fault code entries and functional limitations. Fault code entries must be read out and deleted if necessary.

Preliminary work
- Refer to REMOVING THE ACOUSTIC COVER
- Refer to REMOVING RIGHT LUGGAGE COMPARTMENT TRIM PANEL
- Disconnecting the battery earth lead
- Remove the cover in the left engine compartment
- Remove the right cover in the engine compartment
- Refer to REMOVING TRAILING LINK AT SPRING STRUT DOME
- Remove the sound insulation on the bulkhead upper part at the center
- Refer to REMOVING ACOUSTIC COVER AT REAR
- Remove the FRONT UNDERBODY PROTECTION
- Remove REAR UNDERBODY PROTECTION
- Remove the SUPPORT FOR THE UNDERBODY PROTECTION
- Refer to REMOVE EXHAUST SYSTEM
- Detach the propeller shaft from the transmission and tie it up on the vehicle floor (refer to initial removal steps in REMOVING/INSTALLING PROPELLER SHAFT )
- Remove transmission cross-member.
- Vehicles with automatic transmission: refer to REPLACING CROSS MEMBER FOR TRANSMISSION MOUNTING .
- For vehicles with manual transmission, the see relevant information under the procedure for TRANSMISSION BEARING BLOCK .
- Refer to UNINSTALL COVER FOR THE DME CONTROL UNIT

Follow-up work

- Install transmission cross-member.
- Vehicles with automatic transmission: refer to REPLACING CROSS MEMBER FOR TRANSMISSION MOUNTING .

- Mount the propeller shaft and center mount (refer to installation steps in REMOVING/INSTALLING PROPELLER SHAFT )

- Install the support for the underbody protection
- Install front and rear underbody protection
- Refer to INSTALLING ACOUSTIC COVER AT REAR
- Install the sound insulation on the bulkhead upper part at the center
- Install tension strut on spring strut dome. Jointing torque: 56 Nm, angle of rotation: 90° NOTE: Replace screws.
- Install the cover in the engine compartment on the left
- Install the cover in the engine compartment on the right
