Removing and installing/replacing right charge air cooler (S63 B44 T 2) (X6 M)

WARNING: Risk of scalding!
Only perform this repair work after engine has cooled down!

Necessary preliminary tasks:

Remove ACOUSTIC COVER .
Remove FRONT UNDERBODY PROTECTION .
Remove FAN COWL .
Remove PRESSURE SENSOR on charge air cooler on right.
Follow INSTRUCTIONS for repair work on the cooling system.

Removal:

Release clamps (1).

Release coolant hoses (2) from clamps (1) and lay to one side.

Undo the screw (1) on the right charge air cooler.

Pull off tank vent valve (1) from charge air cooler and set aside.

Unlock and detach coolant hose (2).

Catch and dispose of escaping coolant.

Release clamp (3) and pull off coolant hose from charge air cooler.

IMPORTANT: When loosening the coolant hoses from the charge air cooler, make sure that the connector remains connected to the throttle body. Coolant may not penetrate the plug connection at the throttle body.

Disconnect coolant hoses from charge air cooler using pinch-off tools (to prevent coolant from escaping).

Unlock and pull off coolant hose (1) from charge air cooler at bottom.

Release clamp (1) on throttle body at bottom.

Pull right charge air cooler (1) towards front and off the exhaust turbocharger.

Pull out charge air cooler (1) towards the top and remove.

Installation:

Mount right charge air cooler (1).

Connect right charge air cooler (1) with the throttle body and the exhaust turbocharger.

Tighten clamp (1) on throttle body at bottom.

Tightening torque 13 71 7AZ .

Connect coolant hose (1) at bottom to the right charge air cooler.

The coolant hose (1) must audibly engage.

Part: Replace clamp (3).

Connect coolant hose to the charge air cooler and fit with clamp (3).

Connect and lock coolant hose (2).

The coolant hose (2) must engage audibly.

Install tank vent valve (1) on charge air cooler.

Secure coolant hose (2) at clamps (1).

Part: Replace clamps (1).

Secure charge air hose between the charge air cooler and the exhaust turbocharger with the clamps (1).

Required follow-up work:

Install FRONT UNDERBODY PROTECTION .
Install PRESSURE SENSOR on charge air cooler on right.
Install FAN COWL .
Check COOLANT FOR THE CHARGE AIR COOLER and top up as required.
Install the ACOUSTIC COVER .
