37 11 010 Removing and installing/replacing front active anti-roll bar
RISK OF INJURY if oil comes into contact with eyes and skin!
Close off line connections with seal plugs.
See: Service function->Chassis->Mechanical system->Front axle noise->Check anti-roll bar
In all warranty cases you must always provide a fault memory printout, even where there is no fault entry, with the defective component.
A film of grease on the roller bearing in no way impairs the operability of the anti-roll bar.
The "Conversion of front axle active stabilizer" encoding must be performed with the programming system before start-up following the installation of a new front axle anti-roll bar with part number 6 856 418.
E70 vehicles only:
The "Conversion of accumulator anti-roll bar to twin piston anti-roll bar" encoding must be performed with the programming system before start-up following installation of a new front axle anti-roll bar with part number 6 783 037.
Necessary preliminary tasks:
- Remove FRONT WHEELS .
- Remove FRONT UNDERBODY PROTECTION .
- Remove FRONT RIGHT WHEEL ARCH COVER (FRONT SECTION) .
- Remove RADIATOR AIR DUCT .
- Remove both brake air ducts with holder.
- Remove fan cowl. See 17 11 035 REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING FAN COWL WITH ELECTRIC FAN (M57T2) , 17 11 035 REMOVING AND INSTALLING/RENEWING FAN COWL WITH ELECTRIC FAN (N63) or 17 11 035 REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING FAN COWL WITH ELECTRIC FAN (N55) .
- Remove heat exchanger from front axle support and tie up. See 17 22 010 REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING GEARBOX OIL COOLER FOR AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION (N63, S63) or 17 22 010 REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING HEAT EXCHANGER FOR AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION (M57T2, N54) and tie up.
- Remove both anti-roll bar links from anti-roll bar. See STABILIZER BAR .
Remove radiator box from engine support, extend out, press upwards and support with workshop jack.
Installation note:
Check rubber mount of radiator box for correct fit.
First adjust minimum distance (A) = 3 mm between control line (1) and swivel motor (2).
Then adjust control line (3) with minimum distance (B) = 8 mm to control line (1).
Mark installation position of control lines to swivel motor.
Release banjo nuts (1) and remove control lines (2) from swivel motor.
Seal control lines (2) and connections of swivel motor with clean seal plugs.
Installation note:
Carry over marking of installation position to new part.
Control lines are protected against being mixed up by different thread diameters on the swivel motor connection.
Tightening torque 37 14 18AZ .
Remove both protective caps (of "red" or "natural color plastic" rubber with tensioning strap).
Release screws (1).
Tightening torque 37 14 20AZ .
Remove both control lines (2) from upper retaining brackets and tie up.
Remove upper retaining brackets.
Remove anti-roll bar (3) with rubber mounts from lower retaining brackets.
Replacement: Remove both rubber mounts from anti-roll bar.

- Align holders as pictured by way of additional tabs (2); both tabs point in direction of travel to right
After installation:
- After the installation of a new VA anti-roll bar with the part number 6 856 418, the encoding "conversion of active stabilizer E70/71" must be performed with the programming system before start-up!
- Fill and bleed HYDRAULIC SYSTEM
- Check line connections for leaks
- Carry out INITIAL DYNAMIC DRIVE OPERATION
