51 37 154 Adjusting rear left or right side window
Special tools required:
- Seal against water ingress
- No wind noise
- No rattling
- No unintentional reversing of side windows during closing (anti-trap safety function)
Prerequisites for a correct adjustment of the rear side window:
- Front side window correctly adjusted. See 51 32 154 ADJUSTING LEFT OR RIGHT FRONT SIDE WINDOW .
- Soft top completely open
- Shaft dimension of rear side window has been adjusted correctly. See 51 37... ADJUSTING THE REAR LEFT AND RIGHT WINDOW CAVITY GAP .
- Door closed, door window pane and side window in the upper most position
- Inner weather strip on the door window pane and the rear side window have been installed
- Vehicle must stand on its wheels and on an even surface
- Charge BATTERY
(Full operability of the power windows during the adjustment procedure is only assured with an external power supply)
- Height and forward/back adjustment of rear side window
- 1.1 Measurement
The height of the upper edge of the door window glass (1) defines the area in the side strip (3) for the height adjustment of the side window (2).
Side window (2) may only slightly pretension lip in area (4).
Determine the gap dimension (x) between the edge of the door window glass (1) and the side window (2) across the entire length of the window strip (3).
Gap dimension (A) in longitudinal direction in mm 12 ±1 Measured between the edges of the door window glass (1) and the side window (2) across the entire length of the window strip (3) - 1.2. Setting
Remove outer window cavity cover strip. See 51 37 240 REMOVING AND INSTALLING OR REPLACING OUTER WINDOW CAVITY COVER STRIP FOR DOOR WINDOW, REAR LEFT OR RIGHT .
NOTE: Avoid damaging side window (2) and window cavity through tool use.Slacken multipoint screws (1) using the special tool 51 3 240 only up to the point where it is possible to move the side window (2).
Adjust the height and forward/back adjustment of the side window (2) to the door window glass by moving.
Tighten multipoint head cap screws (1) using special tool 51 3 240 and torque wrench.
Tightening torque 51 37 4AZ .
Measure the height and forward/back adjustment of the side window (2) again and repeat adjustment procedure if necessary.
- 1.1 Measurement
- Preload of side window
- 2.1. Preparations for measurement:
Open door, move door window glass into uppermost position.
Insert special tool 51 0 341 into door lock and manually lock with rotary striker.
Close the door carefully up to the point where the special tool 51 0 341 magnetically adheres to the striker (= defined door opening angle for measurement).
NOTE: Ensure central position of the special tool 51 0 341 during the entire measurement.Power window regulator will only move to the end stop via short lift when special tool is inserted.
- 2.2. Measurement:
Determine the preload of the side window (1) to the outer edge of the door window pane (2).
Measure only with disassembled weather strip.
Preload Dimension in mm 26 ±1 Measured 10 mm below the door window pane (2) NOTE: The door window glass (2) must rest against the sealing of the side window (1) when the door and door window glass (2) are closed/up. - 2.3. Setting:
The preload of side window (2) is adjusted on knurl (1) and can be adjusted by twisting special tool 51 2 220 .
Check the preload setting, repeat adjustment procedure, if applicable.
- 2.1. Preparations for measurement:
- Final inspection work:
- INITIALIZE THE POWER WINDOW REGULATOR
- Check the closing action of the window glasses with a closed soft top again:
Especially the closing windows in relation to each other (door window pane closed, close side window). If applicable, correct setting (applies to rear side window only).
- Check the closing action of the door window glasses:
For this purpose, close the door window glasses completely using the toll closing function (starting from the bottom end position) and monitor the anti-trap mechanism of the door window glass and rear side window (reversing the window glasses).
- Check the closing action of the rear side window with the soft top open:
Lower the rear side window completely. Lower the door window pane so that the door window pane is no longer in the insert with sealing system. Close rear side window completely. In this closing action, the rear side window must not be blocked by the door window glass.
