51 32 154 Adjusting left or right front side window
Special tools required:
- Seal against water ingress
- No wind noise
- No rattling
- No unintentional reversing of side windows during closing (anti-trap safety function)
Prerequisites for correctly setting door window pane:
- SOFT TOP SETTINGS are correct, soft top is closed
- Front door settings are correct. See 54 34 100 ADJUSTING SOFT TOP .
- Inside weather strip is fitted
- Weather strip removed on outside of front door. See 41 51... ADJUSTING LEFT OR RIGHT DOOR .
- Rear side window is fully open
- Vehicle is supported on wheels at ground level
- CHARGE
battery
(Full operability of the power windows during the adjustment procedure is only assured with an external power supply)
- Door window pane preload
- 1.1. Preparations for measurement:
Open door, move door window glass into uppermost position.
Insert special tool 51 0 341 into door lock and manually lock with rotary striker.
Carefully close door until special tool 51 0 341 magnetically connects to striker (= defined door opening angle for measurement).
NOTE: Ensure that special tool 51 0 341 remains centrally positioned throughout the remaining measurement.
Power window regulator will only move to the end stop via short lift when special tool is inserted. - 1.2 Measurement NOTE: No force must be exerted on the door or door window pane during measurement.
Rear outer edge of special tool 51 0 342 must be flush with screen printing closure (1).
Position special tool 51 0 342 on gasket (2) (do not slide into gasket).
Determine dimension for preload at cutting point (2) between outer edge of door window pane (1) and screen printing closure (3) vertically to scale from special tool 51 0 342 .
Preload Dimension in mm 38 ±1 Measured between outer edge of door window glass and gasket - 1.3. Setting
Open door and remove sealing cap on door window frame.
Correctly position special tool 51 3 300 and slacken nut (4) with reversible ratchet (5).
Adjusting element (2) for preload is set at bolt (3) and can be adjusted by turning knob (1) of special tool 51 3 300 .
Adjust preload and tighten nuts (4).
Tightening torque 51 33 7AZ .
Check setting and repeat adjustment procedure if necessary.
If the correct setting can not be achieved, cavity gap of door window glass must be checked and adjusted. See 51 32... ADJUSTING VERTICAL DIMENSION OF FRONT LEFT OR RIGHT SIDE WINDOW .
- 1.1. Preparations for measurement:
- Retraction depth/longitudinal direction
- 2.1 Retraction depth/longitudinal direction ideal setting
Open door and remove special tool 51 0 341 from rotary striker lock.
Connect special tool 2 304 553 to measuring points (A to C) on side window.
Close door.
Measure longitudinal direction (A) and retraction depth (B and C).
The appropriate dimension is to be adjusted in area (A) according to the version of the window guide (see next operation).
Area Dimension Position of special tool 2 304 553 A Version, old = 17 ±1 mm
Version,
new = 18.5 ±1 mmCentrally on mirror triangle B 6 ±1 mm 30 to 40 mm above exterior mirror C 8 ±1 mm 30 to 40 mm in front of outer edge of door window glass - 2.1.1. Determine version of window guide
Insert special tool 51 0 342 up to limit position in window guide (1) and measure length of outer sealing lip (2).
Measured length Version 23 mm Old 25 mm new - 2.1.2. Measurement in longitudinal directionNOTE: Check play of special tool 2 304 553 to edge of door window pane before each measurement.
Lower door window glass (1) until special tool 2 304 553 can be inserted between gasket (2) and door window glass (1).
Carefully close door window pane (1); special tool 2 304 553 must not tilt (to avoid scratching glass).
Align special tool 2 304 553centrally to the mirror triangle.
Determine dimension for retraction depth at scale of special tool 2 304 553 .
Area Dimension Position of special tool 2 304 553 A Version, old = 17 ±1 mm
Version, new = 18.5 ±1 mmCentrally on mirror triangle - 2.1.3. Measurement of retraction depthsNOTE: Special tool 2 304 553 rest against edge of side window without play for each measurement.
To correctly determine the dimension, transfer edge of profile seal (1) with special tool 51 0 342 to scale perpendicular to special tool 2 304 553 .
If necessary, slightly fold soft top cover upwards in area of special tool 2 304 553 .
Area Dimension Position of special tool 2 304 553 B 6 ±1 mm 30 to 40 mm above exterior mirror C 8 ±1 mm 30 to 40 mm in front of outer edge of door window glass
- 2.1.1. Determine version of window guide
- 2.2. Setting NOTE: Avoid damaging door window glass and window cavity through tool use.
Three 2 304 553 special tools are required to speed up adjustment.
When configuring setting, ensure that all special tools 2 304 553 continue to touch edge of door window pane without any gaps.
Slacken multipoint head cap screws (1) 51 3 240 with special tool only until door window glass can just be moved with little effort.
Always slacken both multipoint head cap screws to avoid tension in the power window system.
With door closed, move power window once approx. 5 cm downwards and back into top position paying attention to special tools 2 304 553 .
NOTE: This guarantees the correct positioning of the power window regulator at the end stop.Attach siphon to center of side window.
Then adjust longitudinal direction and retraction depth of door window glass.
Tighten multipoint head cap screws (1) using special tool 51 3 240 and torque wrench.
Tightening torque 51 33 5AZ .
Make sure special tool is correctly fitted on multipoint head cap screws (1).
Measure setting of door window glass again and repeat adjustment procedure, if necessary.
Check preload of door window pane again as described under "1. Door window pane preload" and adjust if necessary.
After adjustment:
- 2.1 Retraction depth/longitudinal direction ideal setting
