Removing the radial shaft seal for the output on the transfer box (VTG)

- Remove the retaining ring (1)
and the recessed nut (2)
with the diaphragm seal.
- Mark the position of the flange nut (1) for the bevel drive pinion (2) .
- Clean all residue from the gearing on the bevel drive pinion (2)
and degrease it.
- Release the flange nut counterclockwise with the special tools 0 495 552 (33 5 050) and 0 495 554 (33 5 070) .
In addition, counter support the drive bevel drive pinion with the special tools 0 495 553 (33 5 060) and 0 495 554 (33 5 070) .
- Cut a small hole in a cloth (1) .
- Slide cloth (1)
over bevel drive pinion (2)
.
- Use thread file (1)
to remove any adhesive residue on the thread.
The thread pitch must be correct!
- Set thread file (1) on the thread of bevel drive pinion (2) .
- Clean the thread by turning a rear wheel and remove the adhesive residue thoroughly.
- Remove cloth (1) from bevel drive pinion (2) .

- By using a center punch, make a hole in the radial shaft seal (1) .
- Screw the special tool 0 491 454 (23 0 490) in the radial shaft seal (1) .
- Drive out the radial shaft seal (1) with the impact weight (2) .
