51 24 360 Removing and installing or replacing left or right gas strut for rear lid

WARNING: Risk of injury. Support rear lid in fully opened position with suitable apparatus.

Necessary preliminary tasks

Remove WATER GUTTER COVER from side.
TAILGATE TRIM side.

Unfasten collar nut (1).

Tightening torque: 51 24 6AZ

Make a written record of the installation position of the gas pressure support(s) before removing.

Lift off retaining spring (2) in direction of arrow and take off gas pressure spring (3) with ball socket (1).

Remove gas pressure spring (1) in direction of arrow.

Installation:

Check ball socket (2) and ball heads (3) for damage, replace if necessary.
