17 11 120 Removing and installing/replacing cooler for charge air cooler (N63 B40/B44 O 0/1)

WARNING: Risk of scalding!
Only perform this repair work after engine has cooled down.
IMPORTANT: When carrying out repair work on the cooling circuit, protect the alternator from dirt contamination.

Cover alternator with suitable materials.

Failure to comply with this procedure may result in an alternator malfunction.

Necessary preliminary tasks 

Release screws (1) on left and right on holder for module carrier.

Tightening torque 17 10 10AZ.

Lift module carrier (1) upwards slightly.

Disengage holder for module carrier (2) from bumper support (3).

For purposes of clarity, the graphic shows the front bumper removed.

Pull holder for module carrier (1) off module carrier (2), feed out and remove.

Release screws (1).

Release holder (2) together with auxiliary water pump from module carrier.

Remove holder (1) upward.

Release and disconnect coolant hoses (2).

Release coolant hoses from clips and retainers.

Remove the radiator for charge air cooler (3) upwards together with the module carrier.

Release and disconnect coolant hoses (1).

Remove the radiator for the charge air cooler (2) from the module carrier toward the top.

Assemble engine.

After completing repair work, top charge air cooler up with coolant.

BLEED  cooling system for charge air cooler.

Check cooling system for tightness.

Assemble engine.
