17..... Bleeding cooling system for charge air cooler (N63 B40/B44 O 0/1)
Special tools required:
Open sealing cap only after engine has cooled down.
Coolant is added at charge air cooler expansion tank.
Electric coolant pump!
FOLLOW NOTES FOR CARRYING OUT REPAIR WORK ON THE COOLING SYSTEM!
Never reuse used coolant!
When replacing and removing components which rely on the corrosion protection effect of the coolant, it is essential to change the coolant. The cooling system must therefore be drained and refilled.
In the case of other removal work involving the draining of part quantities of coolant, replace these quantities which have been drained with new coolant.
Danger of injury!
Catch and dispose of drained coolant in drip tray (1) and if necessary special tool 00 2 030 (universal hydraulic lifting equipment).
Recycling
Observe country-specific waste disposal regulations.
Top up coolant.
Coolant is added at charge air cooler expansion tank.
Use only approved coolant. See RADIATOR -- OPERATING FLUIDS .
Observe mixture ratio.
Venting cooling system
Ensure that both cooling circuits are filled before starting the automatic bleeding procedure. The bleeding procedure is automatically started simultaneously for both cooling circuits. If the bleeding processes is started while one of the cooling circuit is empty, there is a risk of damage to the coolant pump from running it dry.
Switch on the low-beam headlights to perform the bleeding procedure. If the low-beam headlights are not switched on, the ignition (Terminal 15) will switch off automatically after a certain period of time and interrupt the bleeding procedure.
- Top coolant up to the upper edge of the expansion tank. Coolant level may not drop further! No drop in coolant for approx. 1 minute.
- Connect battery charger.
- Switch the ignition on.
- Set heating to maximum temperature. Press Automatic button. Then set the blower to the lowest speed.
- FES (driving experience switch) must not be in ECO PRO!
- Press accelerator pedal for 15 seconds to floor. Engine must not be started.
- The venting procedure is started when the accelerator pedal is pressed and takes approx. 12 minutes.
- Refill expansion tank up to top edge immediately after drawing off until empty.
- Adjust expansion tank to maximum level at end of bleeding procedure.
- Check cooling system for leaks.
- Close expansion tank.
- If the venting procedure has to be carried out again, allow DME to drop completely (ignition key removed for approx. 3 minutes), then repeat from Point 5.
