54 37... Installing/replacing main bearing consoles

Special tools required: 

• 54 0 180
• 54 0 190

Adjust both consoles (1) with barrel screws (2) to dimension a.

Measurement a = 35 mm

Center console (1) and tighten with screws (2).

Tightening torque 54 37 5AZ .

Repeat procedure on other side of car.

Installation: 

Distance of dowel pins must match distance of bore holes on roof module, correct if necessary.

Install ROOF MODULE  and manually move to position shown.

Install REAR MODULE .

Prior to performing further adjusting procedures on consoles, the following components must be adjusted:

• Rear module
• Rear side panels
• Tailgate

After adjusting all components, manually run a complete soft top cycle and check components for collision. See HARDTOP EMERGENCY OPENING  and EMERGENCY CLOSING HARDTOP .

The soft top can then be moved electrically.

During adjusting procedures, support soft top or secure with a second person helping.

Before releasing the roof module screws, move soft top until weight is resting centrally on consoles.

Adjusting in longitudinal direction (X): 

Release X screw connections (1) and slacken lock nut with special tool 54 0 190 .

Tightening torques 54 37 3AZ AND 54 37 1AZ .

Adjust roof module by turning barrel screw (2). Turn barrel screw with special tool 54 0 180 .

Pre-adjustment to dimension a= 19 mm.

Adjusting in transverse direction (Y): 

Release X and Z screw connections.

Center roof module.

Height adjustment (Z): 

Release screws (1).

Tightening torque 54 37 5AZ .

Tightening torque 54 37 3AZ .

Installation: 

Always adjust barrel screws evenly on each side.

Maximum difference between link and right side 1 mm

Completely close soft top.

Check 41 00... BODY GAP DIMENSIONS . at marked points.

Installation: 

If there are problems after installing the soft top, process fault diagnosis tree in BMW diagnosis system.
