51 11... Punching holes in the bumper panel

Special tools required: 

Punching holes is described here using an ultrasonic sensor in the F20.

The versions in which the holes must be punched can be found in the OVERVIEW .

Depending on the version, holes and holders of the ultrasonic sensors for the Park Distance Control (PDC)/Park Maneuvering Assistant (PMA) and side view camera or front camera must be added later.

To punch holes, use special tool 2 334 053 .

In versions with PMA and  side view camera, both punching tools (4) must be used with the punching guide fork. This is the only way to achieve the correct hole spacing.

In versions with PMA or side view camera, insert the appropriate component into the holder before punching and in this way determine the hole that needs to be punched.

  1. Screw.
  2. Nut.
  3. Die plate.
  4. Stamp.

Check the punching tool for damage before using, and replace any defective parts.

The shaft of the bolt (1) must be lightly oiled.

Drill bumper panel centrally at mark (1).

NOTE: Mark (2) corresponds to the position of the sensor.
Mark (3) corresponds to the position of the tool.
Mark (4) is for positioning the PDC holder.

IMPORTANT: To avoid damaging the bumper panel, always punch from the outside to the inside.
  1. View from inside.
  2. View from outside.

Insert die plate (1) and stamp (2) with the bolt and nut.

Align die plate (1) to mark (3) and tighten the tool hand-tight.

Check the position of the die plate (1) at mark (3) and correct it if necessary.

Punch out the hole by turning the nut while holding the bolt.

Disassemble special tool (1).

IMPORTANT: Risk of damage to tool!
Introduce a suitable tool (2) through the lateral hole and pry out the punching remnant (3).
