11 00 050 Remove and install the engine (N47)

Special tools required:

11 0 020

Necessary preliminary tasks:

Move ENGINE COMPARTMENT LID into service position.
Remove transmission.
REMOVE acoustic cover at rear
Remove clean air pipe . See 13 71 150 REMOVING CLEAN AIR PIPE (N47) or 13 71 150 REMOVING CLEAN AIR PIPE (N47 WITH SCR) .
Drain COOLANT .
Disconnect all coolant hoses including heater hoses from engine.
Remove left pressure pipe .
Remove right pressure pipe .
Loosen the electronics box and place on engine. See 12 14 550 REPLACING ELECTRONICS BOX (N47) or 12 14 550 REPLACING CONTROL UNIT BOX (N47 WITH SCR) .
RELEASE A/C COMPRESSOR AND PLACE TO ONE SIDE .
Remove DIESEL PARTICULATE FILTER .

Recycling:

Catch and dispose of escaping fuel with auxiliary materials.

Observe country-specific waste disposal regulations.

Unlock lock (1) and slightly raise service cover (2) until lock of cover (3) is accessible.

Unlock lock and remove cover (3).

Slacken nut (1).

Tightening torque: 12 42 4AZ .

Remove positive battery cable from battery positive terminal.

Unlock and detach coolant hose (1) from expansion tank.

Unlock quick-release fastener (1) and pull out vacuum line (2).

Unlock fuel feed and return lines (1) and disconnect.

Secure electronics box (1) on engine against falling out.

Fit special tool 11 0 020 on engine.

IMPORTANT: Pay attention to chain of special tool 11 0 020 . Risk of damage.
Only raise engine at the lifting lugs (2) provided for this purpose.

Release nut (1) on left and right engine mounts.

Installation note:

Replace nuts.

Release ground strap on left engine support arm.

Assemble engine.
