51 36 070 Removing And Installing/Replacing Left Or Right Rear Side Window

Special tools required:

IMPORTANT: The "INSTRUCTIONS ON WINDOW BONDING" serve as the basis for this repair instructions and must be observed without fail.
Cover rear side panels with protective covers.

NOTE: Removal is performed with ROLL OUT 2000 . Only use an oscillating blade when replacing the windscreen.

Necessary preliminary tasks

Remove TRIM STRIP FROM DRIP MOLDING

Replacement

Remove TRIM PANEL FOR ROOF PILLAR (C-pillar)
Remove PANEL FOR DOOR PILLAR .
Replace COVER ON SIDE WINDOW

IMPORTANT: Tape off body in area of piercing point with fabric adhesive tape (risk of damage).

Push wire starter from ROLL OUT 2000 at line (1) through adhesive bead.

Only replace:

Fit straight blade with thrust roller (Sourcing Reference: BMW Parts Department) on tool and set dimension (X).

X = 18 mm

NOTE: Sharpen knife blade before every use on a running machine (even with new knife blades).

Tape off side window and body flange all round with fabric adhesive tape (e.g. Tesa).

Only replace:

Secure outside of side window with adhesive tape.

Insert blade carefully between body and side window.

Guide web of blade parallel to side window. Cut through adhesive bead as close to body as possible.

Remove the side window with a special tool 51 3 010 .

Fitting 3 dual-lock tapes

Remove remnants of Dual Lock tapes (1 and 2) and clean bonding surface.

Stick new Dual Lock tapes (1 and 2) to raised marking on body flange (3).

Dual Lock tapes:

20 x 20 mm
13 x 20 mm

If necessary, cut Dual Lock tape (2) to shape.

Dual lock tapes on side window must be matched to dual lock tapes on sheet metal flange.

Attach two special tools 51 3 010 to tool trolley. Moisten suction faces and secure side window.

When reusing the existing side window, remove residual adhesive to 0.5 mm.

If necessary, remove remainder of dual lock tapes (5). Clean bonding surface and stick on new dual lock tapes (5).

Almost vertical part (B) of cement bead (1) must face PVC coating (6).

Spread bead joint (4) with special tool 00 9 322 .

NOTE: To avoid wind noises, stick expanding foam tape (1) as pictured at top and bottom to PVC coating (2).

Stick expanding foam tape* (1) according to dimension (A and B) to side window.

Firstly fit side window (1) bottom with special tool 51 3 010 with PVC coating (2) then fold in at the top.

Adapt PVC coating (2) of side window (1) to side wall and adjust dimension "A" of side window (1) in relation to body.

10 mm

Snap side window (1) into dual-lock tapes.

Fix side window (1) in position with yellow plastic adhesive tape (sourcing reference: BMW Parts Department).
