51 45 177 Removing and installing/replacing panel for active knee protector on left

WARNING: Observe safety regulations for handling AIRBAG modules and pyrotechnical seatbelt tensioners.
Incorrect handling can activate AIRBAG and cause injury.

Follow instructions for disconnecting and connecting battery. Refer to 12 00... INSTRUCTIONS FOR DISCONNECTING AND CONNECTING BATTERY .

Disconnect battery negative lead.

Remove middle instrument panel trim. Refer to 51 45... REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING CENTER INSTRUMENT PANEL TRIM .

Remove lighting control unit. Refer to 61 31 037 REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING LIGHTING CONTROL UNIT .

Remove trim panel for pedal assembly. Refer to 51 45 185 REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING TRIM FOR PEDAL ASSEMBLY .

Turn plug connection (1) approx. 30° counterclockwise and remove from holder (2).

Unfasten plug connection (1) and disconnect.

Release screws (1).

Installation: 

Tightening torque, 51 45 1AZ. Refer to BODY EQUIPMENT - TIGHTENING TORQUES .

Release screws (1).

Installation: 

Tightening torque, 51 45 1AZ. Refer to BODY EQUIPMENT - TIGHTENING TORQUES .

Remove panel (2).

CAUTION: Always replace panel for active knee protector on left complete.
Do not carry out any repairs on AIRBAG module.

Installation: 

Slide guide (1) of steering column panel into mounting (2).
