64 12 021 Removing And Installing Complete Independent Heater

Special Tools Required: 

Necessary Preliminary Tasks: 

NOTE: Disconnect water hoses on independent heater.
WARNING: Danger of scalding! Only perform the following tasks on an engine that has cooled down. Follow instructions for working on cooling system. Refer to 17 00... INSTRUCTIONS FOR WORKING ON COOLING SYSTEM .
NOTE: Disconnect fuel line on independent heater with special tool 13 3 010.

Recycling: 

Fuel escapes when fuel line is detached. Have a suitable collecting container ready.

Catch and dispose of escaping fuel.

Observe country-specific waste-disposal regulations.

Disconnect plug connections (1) and (2).

CAUTION: To avoid damaging the independent heater, it is absolutely essential to adhere to the following contacting sequence for the plug connections:
  1. Plug connection (1).
  2. Plug connection (2).

Release hose clamps (3).

Disconnect fuel line (1).

Disconnect water hoses (2).

Release screws (3).

Detach independent heater (4) in direction of arrow from fixture (5).

Installation: 

Make sure exhaust system (6) is correctly seated.

Top up coolant and vent cooling system.

Installation: 

If necessary, replace rubber grommets (1) and grommets (2).
