51 13 400 Removing And Installing/Replacing Rear Center Trim (Up To 03/2005)

Necessary Preliminary Tasks:

If necessary, remove number/license plate.
Remove trim for rear lid at bottom, refer to 51 49 005 REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING TRIM FOR LOWER REAR LID .
Remove rear light from center of rear lid. Refer to 63 21 186 REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING REAR LIGHT (ON CENTER OF REAR LID) .

NOTE: Detaching rear center trim is shown on the left side; proceed in same way for detaching on the right side.

Disconnect plug connection (1).

Unscrew nuts (2).

Tightening torque, refer to 51 13 6AZ in BODY EQUIPMENT - TIGHTENING TORQUES .

Lever out catches (1)

Remove complete rear center trim (2) in direction of arrow.

Installation:

Make sure two-part seal (1) is correctly seated.

If necessary, replace faulty clips (2).

Replacement Only:

Remove both rear lights. Refer to 63 21 183 REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING LEFT OR RIGHT REAR LIGHT (UP TO 03/2005) (ON REAR LID) .

If necessary, remove two-part seal.
