63 21 180 Removing And Installing/Replacing Left Or Right Rear Light

IMPORTANT:

(Coupe) and/or 61 35... NOTES ON ESD PROTECTION (ELECTRO STATIC DISCHARGE)
(Convertible).
Necessary preliminary tasks:
- Partially remove luggage compartment wheel arch trim . Refer to 51 47 151 REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING LEFT LUGGAGE COMPARTMENT WHEEL ARCH TRIM or 51 47 161 REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING RIGHT LUGGAGE COMPARTMENT WHEEL ARCH TRIM for Coupe. Also, refer to 51 47 151 REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING LEFT LUGGAGE COMPARTMENT WHEEL ARCH TRIM or 51 47 161 REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING RIGHT LUGGAGE COMPARTMENT WHEEL ARCH TRIM for Convertible.
- Remove socket housing for rear light . Refer to 63 21 055 Replacing Socket Housing For Left Or Right Rear Light .
- Remove bulb holder for brake/tail light. Refer to 63 21 055 Replacing Socket Housing For Left Or Right Rear Light .
Release nuts (1, 3, 5), gripping the threaded pin (2) with a suitable tool in so doing. Tightening torque, see 63 21 1AZ in 63 21 REAR LIGHT UNIT .
Remove rear light (6) in outward direction from rear light base (4).
Installation:
- Observe tightening sequence:
- Tighten nut (1)
- Tighten nut (3)
- Tighten nut (5)
- Ensure fitting of sealing washers on outer threaded pins (2) between rear light (6) and rear light base (4)
- Make sure sealing frame for rear light is correctly seated on rear light (6). Refer to 63 21 101 Replacing Sealing Frame For Left Or Right Rear Light .
- Make sure gap (outer) is uniform all round between rear light (6) and side panel.
