65 77 710 Removing and Installing (Replacing) Left A-Pillar Sensor

Incorrect handling can activate airbag and cause injury.

NOTE: Follow instructions for handling optical fibers. See 61 00 ... NOTES ON HANDLING OPTICAL FIBERS .

Necessary preliminary tasks:

Disconnect battery negative lead and cover. See 12 00 ... INSTRUCTIONS FOR DISCONNECTING AND CONNECTING BATTERY .
Remove footwell side trim panel on A-pillar. See 51 43 070 REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING SIDE TRIM PANEL, FOOTWELL, ON A-PILLAR, LEFT and 51 43 075 REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING SIDE TRIM PANEL, FOOTWELL, ON A-PILLAR, RIGHT .
Place carpet slightly to one side.

Unfasten plug connection (1) and disconnect.

Unscrew bolt (2).

Unscrew nuts (3).

Installation:

Tightening torque 65 77 4AZ . See 65 77 AIRBAG TRIGGERING CONTROL .

Make sure sensor is mounted without play.

Remove A-pillar sensor (4).

Replacement:

Carry out coding/programming.

Observe following IDC specifications:
