12 41 020 Removing and Installing/Replacing Starter Motor (N73)

Necessary preliminary tasks:

Follow instructions for disconnecting and connecting battery . See 12 00 ... INSTRUCTIONS FOR DISCONNECTING AND CONNECTING BATTERY .
Remove right exhaust manifold . See 18 40 020 REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING RIGHT EXHAUST MANIFOLD (N73) .
Disconnect battery negative lead and cover.

Unfasten screws.

Remove heat shield (1).

Unscrew nuts.

For tightening torque 12 41 4AZ , see 12 41 STARTER AND MOUNTING PARTS .

Remove lines (1).

Release screws and pull release out of transmission mounting and remove.

For tightening torque 12 41 1AZ , see 12 41 STARTER AND MOUNTING PARTS .

Assemble engine.

Installation:

Check starter pinion and ring gear for damage, replace damaged parts if necessary.
