Special tools required:

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2008 BMW 760Li and 2007 BMW 760Li. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

Necessary preliminary tasks: 

NOTE: Resecure front axle support after removing both manifolds.

Installation: 

Tightening torque 31 10 1AZ. See 31 10 FRONT AXLE SUSPENSION

Do not detach oil lines from automatic transmission to heat exchanger.

Secure starter motor (1) with transmission screw (2) against falling out.

Release A/C compressor (1).

Release power steering pump (2).

NOTE: Secure all connecting leads with cable ties (3) against falling down.

Detach plug connections (1) on tank vent valve cyl. 1-6 and 7-12.

Disconnect tank vent line (2) and lay to one side.

Disconnect vacuum line (3) and lay to one side.

Unlock and detach water hoses (1).

Unlock heater hose (2) and detach in direction of arrow.

Installation: 

Plug connections of water hoses are correctly fitted when they snap into place with a clearly audible click.

Unlock water hose (1) on auxiliary water pump and detach in direction of arrow.

Unlock hose (1) and detach from secondary air pump.

Secure automatic transmission heat exchanger (2) with cable tie (3) against falling down.

NOTE: Engine removed for purposes of clarity.

Place engine oil cooler (1) on suction bridge.

Secure engine wiring harness (2) against falling down with cable tie (3) on suction bridge.

Mount special tool 11 0 000 on engine. See 11 0 000 ENGINE LIFTER FOR REMOVING AND INSTALLING ENGINES .

Remove screw (1) on left and right engine brackets.

Unfasten ground strap (2).

Remove engine.
