51 16 367 Removing and installing right glovebox with housing (with active knee protection)

Special tools required:

00 9 317

WARNING:

Read and comply with safety regulations for handling airbag modules and pyrotechnical belt tensioners. (See 72 00 ... SAFETY REGULATIONS FOR HANDLING COMPONENTS WITH GAS GENERATORS )

Incorrect handling can activate airbag and cause in jury.

Necessary preliminary tasks:

Disconnect negative battery cable (See 61 20 900 DISCONNECTING AND CONNECTING BATTERY NEGATIVE LEAD )
Remove right glove box (See 51 16 360 REMOVING AND INSTALLING RIGHT GLOVE BOX (WITH ACTIVE KNEE PROTECTION) )

Release screws (1 and 2).

Installation:

Replace screws (2).

Tightening torque 72 12 19AZ. (See BODY EQUIPMENT - TIGHTENING TORQUES article)

NOTE: Secure right glovebox with housing (4) against falling out.

Lever out right glovebox with housing (4) using special tool 00 9 317 at retaining points (3) and remove. (See BODY EQUIPMENT - SPECIAL TOOLS article)

Unlock and disconnect plug connection on airbag module and switch for glovebox light.

NOTE: Do not lose nuts (5) belonging to screws (2), detach if necessary.

Installation:

Replace retainers (1).

Make sure clips (1) are correctly seated in associated mountings.

Replacement:

Remove airbag module for front passenger knee protection (See 72 12 006 REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING AIRBAG MODULE FOR PASSENGER'S KNEE PROTECTION )
Remove damper for glove box (See 51 16 383 REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING DAMPER FOR GLOVE BOX )
If necessary, remove switch for glove box light (See 61 31 330 REMOVING SWITCH FOR GLOVEBOX LIGHT )
If necessary, press both bearing pins (3) in direction of arrow out of right glove box with housing (2).
