Instrument Panel, Removing And Installing: Removing

-- Pay attention to the safety precautions when working with pyrotechnic components. Refer to SAFETY PRECAUTIONS WHEN WORKING WITH PYROTECHNIC COMPONENTS .

-- Move the steering wheel as far to the rear and down as possible. Use the full steering column adjustment range for this.

-- Remove the driver side airbag unit. Refer to AIRBAG UNIT WITH IGNITER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the steering wheel. Refer to STEERING WHEEL, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the driver side outer instrument panel vent. Refer to OUTER INSTRUMENT PANEL VENT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the instrument panel decorative trim on the driver side. Refer to INSTRUMENT PANEL DECORATIVE TRIM, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the upper steering column trim panel. Refer to UPPER STEERING COLUMN TRIM PANEL, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the lower steering column trim panel. Refer to LOWER STEERING COLUMN TRIM PANEL, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the steering column switch module. Refer to STEERING COLUMN SWITCH MODULE, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the light switch trim. Refer to LIGHT SWITCH TRIM, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the instrument panel side cover. Refer to INSTRUMENT PANEL SIDE COVER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the instrument panel cover on the driver side. Refer to DRIVER SIDE INSTRUMENT PANEL COVER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the glove compartment. Refer to GLOVE COMPARTMENT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the center vent. Refer to CENTER VENT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the display control head decorative panels. Refer to DISPLAY CONTROL HEAD DECORATIVE TRIM, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the Front Information Display Control Head -J685-. Refer to COMPONENT LOCATION OVERVIEW - INFOTAINMENT SYSTEM .

-- Remove the mount for the Control Module for Emergency Call Module and Communication Unit -J949-. Refer to COMPONENT LOCATION OVERVIEW - INFOTAINMENT SYSTEM .

-- Guide the Control Module for Emergency Call Module and Communication Unit -J949- with connected wires forward through the instrument panel and lay aside on the heater and A/C unit.

-- Remove the instrument cluster trim. Refer to INSTRUMENT CLUSTER TRIM, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the instrument cluster. Refer to OVERVIEW - INSTRUMENT CLUSTER .

-- Remove the Front A/C Display Control Head -E87-. Refer to DISPLAY CONTROL HEAD, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the center console. Refer to CENTER CONSOLE, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the A-pillar upper trim panels. Refer to A-PILLAR UPPER TRIM PANEL, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the speaker trim in the instrument panel. Refer to SPEAKER TRIM, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the speaker mount from the instrument panel. Refer to SPEAKER MOUNT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the center front defroster vent. Refer to FRONT CENTER DEFROSTER VENT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the front speaker in the instrument panel. Refer to COMPONENT LOCATION OVERVIEW - SOUND SYSTEM .

-- If installed, unclip the Near Field Communication Antenna -R269- and disconnect the connector.

-- If installed, remove the windshield projection cover (head up display). Refer to WINDSHIELD PROJECTION (HEAD-UP DISPLAY) COVER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- If equipped, remove the windshield projection head up display control module (head up display). Refer to WINDSHIELD PROJECTION HEAD UP DISPLAY CONTROL MODULE, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the Information Electronics Control Module 1 -J794- with the mount and let it hang with the wires still attached. Refer to COMPONENT LOCATION OVERVIEW - INFOTAINMENT SYSTEM .

-- Remove the bolts -2 and 6-.

-- Disengage the support -5- from the instrument panel and remove it.

-- Remove the bolts -1 and 3-.

-- Equipment version: turn the left and right vent temperature sensor -4- counter-clockwise, remove from the mount and let hang with connector still connected.

-- Release the connector lock -1- with a small flat-head screwdriver -arrow-.

-- Disconnect the connector -2- from the Front Passenger Airbag Igniter 1 -N131-.

-- Release the connector lock -1- with a small flat-head screwdriver -arrow-.

-- Disconnect the connectors -2, 3 and 4- from the Front Passenger Airbag Igniter 1 -N131-, Front Passenger Airbag Igniter 2 -N132- and Front Passenger Airbag Release Valve Igniter -N491-.

-- Remove the bolts -arrows-.

-- Unclip and free up the Wireless Data Transfer Antenna -R336- -1-.

-- Remove the bolts -arrows-.

-- Unclip and free up the wiring harnesses from the instrument panel.

-- Disengage the instrument panel at the driver and front passenger side from the crossmember -1-.

-- To do so slightly lift the instrument panel -2- at the position shown and remove it toward the rear from the crossmember -arrow-.

-- Unclip and free up the wiring harnesses from the instrument panel in the area of the A-pillar.

-- Lift up the instrument panel -3- slightly and carefully remove it from the mounts -2- toward the rear and from the crossmember.

-- Remove the instrument panel toward the rear while guiding the connectors out.

-- Remove the instrument panel from the vehicle and lay it on a soft surface.
