Instrument Panel CROSSMEMBER, Removing And Installing: Removing

-- Remove the plenum chamber cover. Refer to PLENUM CHAMBER COVER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the crossmember bolt -1- from the plenum chamber rear panel.

RHD vehicle:

-- Remove the windshield wiper motor. Refer to WINDSHIELD WIPER MOTOR -V-, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the crossmember bolt -1- from the plenum chamber bulkhead.

Continuation for All Vehicles:

-- Remove the instrument panel. Refer to INSTRUMENT PANEL, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Market-specific for North America: remove the driver side knee airbag. Refer to KNEE AIRBAG WITH IGNITER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING, DRIVER SIDE .

-- Remove the footwell vent on the driver side. Refer to OVERVIEW - AIR ROUTING AND AIR DISTRIBUTION IN VEHICLE INTERIOR .

-- Loosen the left A-pillar fuse panel from the instrument panel crossmember. Refer to COMPONENT LOCATION OVERVIEW - RELAY PANELS, FUSE PANELS AND E-BOX .

-- Remove the air vent defrost. Refer to OVERVIEW - AIR ROUTING AND AIR DISTRIBUTION IN VEHICLE INTERIOR .

-- Remove the Heating and Air Conditioning Control Module - J979-. Refer to COMPONENT LOCATION OVERVIEW - COMPONENTS IN FRONT VEHICLE INTERIOR .

Driver Side:

-- Unclip the Bluetooth Antenna -R152- in the area of the A-pillar and free up.

RHD vehicle:

-- If equipped, remove the TV-Tuner -R78- and the bracket. Refer to the appropriate Service Information. .

Continuation for All Vehicles:

-- Remove the windshield projection head up display (head up display) bracket. Refer to OVERVIEW - WINDSHIELD PROJECTION (HEAD-UP DISPLAY) .

-- Equipment version: remove the ground wire -arrow- from the heater and A/C unit.

-- Remove the nut -arrow- and free up the ground wires at the instrument panel crossmember.

-- Unclip the wiring harness bracket -1- from the crossmember.

-- Unclip the wiring harness from the instrument panel crossmember and free it up.

-- Remove the steering column from the instrument panel crossmember and lay it on the floor of the vehicle. Refer to STEERING COLUMN, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Loosen the Data Bus on Board Diagnostic Interface -J533-. Refer to DATA BUS ON BOARD DIAGNOSTIC INTERFACE -J533-, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the bolts -arrows-.

• For reinstallation, mark the vertical and lengthwise position on the instrument panel crossmember.

-- Push aside the carpet in the area of the threaded connection and remove the bolt -1-.

-- Repeat the procedure on the opposite side.

-- Remove the bolt -1- and nut -2- for the instrument panel crossmember.

-- Repeat the procedure on the opposite side.

-- Free up the wires for the instrument panel crossmember.

• Two technicians are needed to remove the instrument panel crossmember.

-- Slightly lift the instrument panel crossmember, push it to the rear and disengage it from the heater/A/C unit.

-- Disengage the instrument panel crossmember on the clip.

-- Disengage the instrument panel crossmember from the wiring harness and remove from the vehicle interior toward the rear.
