DTC Table

NOTE:

The contents of DTC memory are retained until erased DTC MEMORY, ERASING AND ENDING OUTPUT .

Before replacing components, always test the relevant positive and Ground (GND) connections on the basis of the wiring diagram and also all the relevant harness connector terminals.

After replacing a component of the ABS, ABS /EDL or ABS /EDL/ASR system, always check and erase DTC memory DTC MEMORY, ERASING AND ENDING OUTPUT . Carry out a road test during which the vehicle is driven at a speed of at least 60 km/h (38 mph) for a period of 30 seconds. When this is done, ABS warning light -K47-, the traction control indicator light -K86- if so equipped, and the brake warning light must not come on.

Use test box : VAG1598/20  for testing the electrical connections to the ABS Control Module (w/EDL) -J104- Test Box VAG 1598/20, Connecting for Wiring Test .

Malfunctions that occur sporadically are also identified as such by "/SP" which appears on the right side of the : VAG1551  display.

When testing sporadic malfunctions, move the cable connection running to the components during the test (loose contact).

Static malfunctions that cannot be recognized when the vehicle is not moving are also identified with "/SP" after the ignition is switched off and on.

The 5-digit Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) does not appear in the display. It is shown only on the hard copy printed out by the : VAG1551  printer.

No DTC recognized If this display appears, the On Board Diagnostic (On Board Diagnostic) program is ended. No malfunction is stored in DTC memory. If appropriate warning lights nevertheless come on, investigate the following points:
  • Voltage supply for ABS Control Module (w/EDL) -J104- less than 10.5 V at a vehicle speed of less than 6 km/h (4 mph)
  • Open circuit in wiring between ABS Control Module (w/EDL) -J104- and instrument cluster -J218- ABS warning light -K47-
If it is not possible to pinpoint a malfunction and no further malfunction exists, there may be a mechanical problem (solenoid valve jamming). Troubleshooting should be extended to include electrical testing ELECTRICAL CHECK .
